RESOLUTION NO. 88...15
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY ENDORSING THE IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY
FOR THE T2000 FINAL PLAN AS CONTAINED IN THE
DRAFT T2000 PHASE lIT SUMMARY REPORT
WHEREAS, County Supervisor Suzanne Wilson has
presented to the Council the Draft T2000 Phase TII
Summary Report approved by the T2000 Steering Committee
for the implementation of the T2000 Final Plan, and
WHEREAS, the City staff concurs with the Steering
Committee and recommends endorsement subject to the
following comments:
The City of Gilroy has already implemented most of
the Plan's strategies.
The City requires the assistance of the County in
implementing the planned deye1o~ment of Santa Teresa
Expressway. The City of Gilroy is long range land use and
transportation planning rely on the future development and
expansion of this transportation corridor. The alignment
and, tentatively, the width has been determined between
California Avenue and Highway 101, a distance of nearly
eleven miles. The protection of rights~of~way and limited
access on the part of all agencies affected is essential.
The City of Gilroy has imposed a fee on development to
provide funds for the construction of this expressway within
the City's jurisdictiont and is currently accumulating funds
for future construction.
The County's support on this corridor should come in
the form of official acknowledgement of the alignment from
south of California Avenue to Highway 101 south of Gilroy
and include right-of-way protection through development reviewt
plan-liningt and further support in the completion of the
South County Expressway Study.
Gilroy residents have shown strong support for the
extension of Cal-Train to Gilroy. The City has had long term
plans to use redevelopment for a multi-modal transportation
center to be anchored by the train depot.

NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Gilroy endorses the Draft T2000 Phase III
Summary subject to the above comments.
