RESOLUTION NO. 88 - 19
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING
TACCO-MACHI, JAPAN AS A SISTER CITY OF THE CITY OF GILROY
WHEREAS, the goal of world peace can only be achieved if the nations of
the world work towards mutual respect and understanding; and
WHEREAS, as nations are composed of individuals the goal of mutual
understanding will be reached if the citizens of the nations learn to know and
appreciate each other; and
WHEREAS, for that to occur, citizens of the nations must communicate,
exchange, information, exchange visits and establish mutual trust, respect, and
love; and
WHEREAS, this rapport can be most easily established on a city by city
basis, particularly when the cities have common interests; and
WHEREAS, Tacco-machi and the City of Gilroy are national centers for the
growing and processing of garlic; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Gilroy desire to establish a sister
city relationship with Tacco-machi, Japan; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council sees a great advantage to the City and
to the cause of world peace and universal understanding in such a relationship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Gilroy that
Tacco-machi is a sister city of the City of Gilroy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy looks forward to a
rewarding exchange of ideas and the building of mutual trust and respect between
the citizens of the cities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of April, 1988, by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: GAGE, HALE, KLOECKER, MUSSALLEM, PALMERLEE,
VALDEZ and HUGHAN.
