RESOLUTION NO. 88 - 75
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY PROCLAIMING VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY
WEEK.
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese Community of Santa Clara County has made
significant contributions to the cultural, economic and historial dynamism of the
entire region; and
WHEREAS, The TET Festival Organizing Committee of the Coalition of
Nationalist Vietnamese Organizations of Northern California is demonstrating
outstanding skills in bringing together the Vietnamese Community in celebrating an
important period in their history and culture; and
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese Community has grown to become an important and
vibrant element of the county accounting for over 70,000 residents and continues to
have a positive impact on the quality of life enjoyed by all the people of Santa
Clara County; and
WHEREAS, Santa Clara County has always enjoyed a diverse accumulation of
different cultures where tolerance and good will pervades the building of a
friendly and varied society in which each cultural heritage is afforded respect and
admiration; and
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese Community will be celebrating the Vietnamese New
Year with a "TET Festival" on Saturday the 28th day of January, 1989 where there
will be many events commemorating this meaningful day such as a Flag Raising
Ceremony and numerous international visitors, to enjoy this unique opportunity to
share in the rich culture of the Vietnamese people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Gilroy,
County of Santa Clara, State of California proclaims January 21, 1989 through
January 28, 1989 as

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Gilroy, County of
Santa Clara encourages the participation of all city residents in the special week
long celebration of the Vietnamese New Year.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of December, 1988, by the following
vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: GAGE, HALE, KLOECKER, MUSSALLEM, VALDEZ and
HUGHAN.
