RESOLUTION NO. 89-52
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
Al1ENDING RESOLUTION NO. 87-40 ADOPTING THE 1985
UNIFORM BUILDING CODE WITH MODIFICATIONS AND
RESOLUTION NO. 87-48 ADOPTING THE 1985 UNIFORM
FIRE CODE WITH MODIFICATIONS SO AS TO REQUIRE
SPRINKLERS IN RH (RESIDENTIAL HILLSIDE) DISTRICTS
WHEREAS, a modification to the 1985 Uniform Building
Code, Section 3802(b) 5, set forth in paragraph 6f on
page 4 of Resolution No. 87-40, and
WHEREAS, a modification to the 1985 Uniform Fire Code,
Section 10.308(b) 5, set forth in paragraph F. on page 3 of
Resolution No. 87-48, both pertain to sprinkler system require-
ments, and
WHEREAS, both paragraphs now read:
This section shall not be applicable to R-1 and R-3
buildings under five thousand (5,000) square feet in
area.
and,
WHEREAS, upon recommendation of the Director of Public
Safety, the Council has determined that all buildings constructed
in RH (R~sidential Hillside) districts shall have installed an
automatic fire sprinkler system meeting the minimum Life Safety
requirements for dwellings as specified in the National Fire
Protection Association Codes and Standards.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the above quoted
paragraphs of Resolutions No. 87-40 and 87-48 both beamendad

to read that automatic fire systems shall be installed in:
All R-l and R-3 buildings over five thousand
(5,000) square feet in area and all buildings
constructed in an RH (Residential Hillside)
zoning dis tric t.
