RESOLUTION NO. 91 - 30
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROPOSAL THAT MOFFETT FIELD REMAIN A JOINT USE
FEDERAL FACILITY UNDER THE CONTROL AND OPERATION OF NASA AMES RESEARCH
CENTER.
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense has recommended closure of NAS
Moffett Field; and
WHEREAS, Moffett Field is a vital resource for our Nation's defense
and strategic aerospace programs, one of the few key industries where the
United States remains dominant; and
WHEREAS, NASA Ames Research Center and Department of Defense
industries that are dependent upon the use of Moffett Field contract with
companies throughout Santa Clara County and Silicon Valley; and
WHEREAS, Moffett Field is critical to the economy of Santa Clara
County; and
WHEREAS, Moffett Field represents a major investment in unique
facilities and a catalyst for intellectual activity and critical interaction
among a myriad of players that comprise the high technology community of
Silicon Valley; and
WHEREAS, Moffett Field is a national asset - a one-of-a-kind complex
that cannot be duplicated elsewhere without incurring substantial costs and
irreparable damage to our national research and development efforts in
aerospace and defense.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Gilroy that the City
of Gilroy endorses the proposal that Moffett Field remain a joint use
federal facility under the control and operation of NASA Ames Research
Center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded
to the Santa Clara County Congressional Delegation, the Governor, the Santa
Clara County State Legislative Delegation and the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, this 3rd day of June, 1991, by the following
vote:
