RESOLUTION NO. 91 - 67
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING RETIRED
MAYOR ROBERTA H. HUGHAN
WHEREAS, ROBERTA H. HUGHAN, retired Mayor of the City of Gilroy served as
an exemplary elected member of the Gilroy Ci ty Council for fourteen (14) years,
from March 8, 1977 through November 18, 1991 when She chose not to run for re-
election; and
WHEREAS, it was through Mayor Hughan's outstanding leadership and
successful efforts both as Gilroy's first Councilwoman from March 8, 1977 through
November 8, 1983 when she was elected Mayor that this community grew to a
prosperous progressive city; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Council deem it fitting and proper that
special recognition be made herein of the services rendered the City of Gilroy by
one who faithfully performed her public duty and was in addition a highly respected
citizen always interested in the progress and welfare of the City and ready to help
therein; and
WHEREAS, ROBERTA H. HUGHAN earned the respect of her peers for her
ability to bring forth constructive ideas, her ability to affect consensus, and her
honest and forthright approach to City government, serving as an outstanding
example of an elected official; and
WHEREAS, as a long time Gilroy resident, wife and mother, local
businesswoman, and as a participant in service and charitable organizations, she
has enriched community life in Gilroy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the Gilroy City
Council deem it fitting and proper that special recognition be made herein of the
services rendered the City of Gilroy by one who faithfully performed public duty
and was in addition a very highly respected citizen always interested in the
progress and welfare of the City and wish her success in all of her future
endeavors.
