RESOLUTION NO. 92 - 20
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE
"CALIFORNIA MAIN STREET DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM" AND DESIGNATING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
WHEREAS, the California Main Street Demonstration Program has been
established in the California Department of Commerce to assist small cities to
develop a public/private effort to revitalize their downtown commercial areas, and
whereas, up to five California cities will be selected to participate in the
program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy agrees to participate in the California Main
Street Demonstration Program for an initial start-up period of at least three years
and in accordance with the downtown revitalization approach developed by the
National Trust for Historic Preservation and adopted by the California Department
of Connnerce.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
THAT:
Section 1. The city shall apply for selection to participate in the 1992
California Main Street Program for at least three years with the specific goal of
performing as a model to other California cities by revitalizing the Downtown
Business District within the context of preserving and rehabilitating its historic
and culturally significant buildings.
Section 2. The city shall commit funds to the program in the amount of
$30,000.00 for Year One ($30,000.00 for Year Two, and $30,000 for Year Three).
Section 3. The city agrees to accept the recommended services to be
delivered by the State Department of Commerce and understands that refusal to do
so constitutes grounds for the city to be removed from the Main Street Program.
Section 4. The city agrees to record and to provide information on program
results to the State upon request.
Section 5. The City Administrator is authorized to submit the application
to the California Department of Commerce.
