RESOLUTION NO. 93-55
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY eOUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GILROY ESTABLISHING NO-CRUISING ZONES
WHEREAS, "cruising" as defined in section 15.1 of the
Code of the City of Gilroy ("City Code") creates public health and
safety problems for the citizens of Gilroy by causing extreme
traffic congestion, unnecessary noise and air pollution, and
extraordinary deployment of police officers to address the problem,
thus diverting scarce police resources away from other concerns;
and
WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code section 21100(k)
authorizes local authorities to adopt ordinances and resolutions
regulating cruising; and
WHEREAS, section 15.14 of the city eode empowers the city
Council to designate no-cruising zones within the city of Gilroy;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
A. The following streets are designated as no-cruising
zones:
1. First Street between Santa Teresa Boulevard and
Monterey Street
2. Leavesley Road between Murray Avenue and
Monterey Street
3 . Tenth Street between Uvas Parkway and the
southbound State Route 101 exit
4. Monterey Street between Farrell and Thomas Road
B. Pursuant to section 21100 (k) of the California
Vehicle Code:
1. The Gilroy Police Department is hereby directed
to produce and distribute in accordance with the City Code written
notices stating the definition of cruising, the prohibition upon
cruising in no-cruising zones, the designated no-cruising zones
within the city, and the penalties for unlawful cruising.

2. The City Administrator is hereby directed to
post signs identifying the beginning and the end of each no-
cruising zone and the provisions against cruising in the City Code.
C. This resolution shall become effective on the date
that Ordinance No. 93-19 becomes effective; however, if Ordinance
No. 93-19 does not become effective, this resolution shall be null
and void without further action.
