RESOLUTION NO. 94 - 63
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING AND COMMENDING THE
SERVICES OF VERN A. GARDNER, ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE, UPON HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gardner has served the City of Gilroy for 15
years; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gardner has declared that he will retire from
the City of Gilroy on September 1, 1994; and
WHEREAS, during his long period of loyal service, always performed his
duties conscientiously, honestly and with the best interests of the City of Gilroy;
and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gardner was the recipient of the Purple Heart
Award after he was wounded in the line of duty on June 2, 1992; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gardner has been commended over the years for
his service including the following partial list:
1. Chairman of the United Narcotics Enforcement Team
2. City Emergency Services Coordinator
3. Chairman of the Local Red Cross Board
4. United States Navy
5. California Police Officers' Association
6. Member of the Alcohol and Drug Board, Santa Clara County
7. Supporter for campaign for Wheeler
8. City of Gilroy'S Employee of the Month, September 1987; and
WHEREAS, he received numerous other letters of appreciation and
commendations from his department, other City Departments, as well as from State
Senator Mello, and various service clubs and organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council desires to take this opportunity to
honor Assistant Chief Gardner for his conscientious and faithful service to the
City and the community-at-large.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Gilroy City Council does hereby
commend and honor Assistant Chief Gardner for his loyal and faithful service to his
fellow citizens, community and country and wish him and his family continued
success and happiness in all future endeavors.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of September, 1994 by the following
vote:
