RESOLUTION NO. 96-45
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GILROY ADOPTING A RECREATION ACCESS POLICY
ALONG THE SANTA TERESA CORRIDOR
WHEREAS, the City Council at its duly noticed meeting of
June 17, 1996, adopted "Guidelines for Sound Attenuation and Visual
Preservation of the Santa Teresa Boulevard Corridor" as recommended
by the Santa Teresa Corridor Task Force, the Parks and Recreation
Commission and the Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with said adoption both the
Parks and Recreation Commission and the Planning Commission
forwarded recommendations to consider establishing pedestrian and
bicycle trails and pathways prior to approval of any new
development along the corridor; and
WHEREAS, the City Council received a petition from its
residents requesting consideration of a pedestrian pathway and a
bicycle lane to provide safe travel for pedestrians, cyclists and
motor vehicles and to enhance the quality of life in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes establishment of
recreational access along the Corridor is beneficial for the public
health, safety and welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. The City Council adopts the following Recreation
Access Policy for the Santa Teresa Corridor: "It is the intention
of the City Council to provide for recreational opportunities along
and within the Santa Teresa Corridor from First Street to Castro
Valley Road. Such recreational opportunities shall include but not
be limited to pedestrian activities such as jogging, hiking and
walking, and also activities such as bicycling.
Adequate rights-
of-way shall be preserved to provide for the installation of
pathways and/or trails, and may be required along both sides of
Santa Teresa Boulevard except along the western side between Uvas

Creek and Miller Avenue."
2. The City Council hereby establishes a task force to
advise the City on implementation of the above policy.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of June, 1996 by the
following vote:
