RESOLUTION NO. 99-34
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
ADOPTING THE GREEN GOVERNMENT PLEDGE TO
CONSERVE RESOURCES, PREVENT POLLUTION AND
REDUCE WASTE.
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy believes that a healthy economy depends on a healthy
environment, and also that a healthy environment depends on a healthy economy; and
WHEREAS, it is important for all Santa Clara County governments, citizens and
businesses to conserve natural resources, save energy, and prevent waste to protect our
environment and also save money through increased efficiencies; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of participating in efforts to educate
businesses and the public on environmental compliance and conservation, as well as setting an
example in these areas; and
WHEREAS, working cooperatively with other government entities, the business
community, and the public will be more effective in helping to achieve common environmental
goals; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has demonstrated its commitment to citizens, businesses
and the environment through its ongoing educational and environmental protection programs, as
well as efforts to improve efficiency and prevent waste in city operations.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Gilroy does hereby adopt the
Green Government Pledge, and directs the department staff to commence with activities which

support the City's pledge to implement efficiencies in City operations and in its program
developments with businesses that conserve resources, prevent pollution and reduce waste.
