RESOLUTION NO. 99-68
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY ADOPTING A NEW STREET NAME FOR PART OF
THE STREET CURRENTLY NAMED THOMAS ROAD AND
ALL OF THE STREET CURRENTLY NAMED LUCHESSA
AVENUE
WHEREAS, pursuant to California Government Code section 34091.1, a City
Council may by resolution change the name of an already existing street; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Road is located adjacent to Monterey Highway and directly
west of Luchessa Avenue as described on the location map attached hereto as Exhibit A and
incorporated herein by this reference; and
WHEREAS, Monterey Highway, which runs in a north-south direction, is the east-
west dividing line for street renumbering in the City of Gilroy. All streets which run across
Monterey Highway are designated "west" to the west of the highway, and "east" to the east of the
highway. Numbering on either side begins at zero and increases as the streets extend away from
the highway on either side; and
WHEREAS, changing the name of a portion of Thomas Road and Luchessa Avenue
will conform to the present policy of using Monterey Highway as an east-west dividing line, and
aid people and emergency services in finding both West and East Luchessa Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the City Council held a duly noticed public meeting on August 2,
1999, at which time it considered the public testimony and other documentation regarding the
renaming of part of Thomas Road and all of Luchessa Avenue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT
A The City Council hereby finds that it is in the public interest and promotes public
safety to change the name ofa portion of Thomas Road to "West Luchessa
Avenue", and to change the name ofLuchessa Avenue to "East Luchessa Avenue",
all as shown on Exhibit A.

B. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to those
departments and agencies listed in Exhibit B, attached hereto.
