RESOLUTION NO. 2006-78
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
IDENTIFYING REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PRIORITIES AS:
STATE ROUTE 152 BETWEEN STATE ROUTE 156 AND U.S. 101,
STATE ROUTE 156 BETWEEN THE ALAMEDA AND UNION ROAD,
AND STATE ROUTE 25 BETWEEN SAN FELIPE ROAD AND U.S. 101
WHEREAS, Gilroy is geographically located as a major regional transportation corridor
to facilitate truck and vehicular traffic to and from the San Joaquin Valley and beyond to the
coastal regions of Northern California; and
WHEREAS, truck and vehicular traffic in, around and through Gilroy is increasing
annually at an accelerated rate which threatens the health and safety of drivers and residents of
the area while creating congestion and deterioration of efficient circulation systems; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gilroy is desirous of adopting a
transportation strategy identifying the most important regional transportation projects to be
pursued; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council has identified three priority projects that will
address the major current and future land transportation needs in the area; and
WHEREAS the Gilroy City Council is confident that establishing regional transportation
priorities for Gilroy and officially adopting this resolution identifying those priorities will
provide support for developing these projects expeditiously and enhance the opportunities to
secure financial support for these projects; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council acknowledges that the identification of these
transportation priorities will enhance interagency communications at the local, state and federal
levels; and

WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council unanimously recognizes that the three projects
identified in this resolution are the top regional transportation priorities for this area; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council acknowledges the fact that cooperation with both
state and regional transportation regulatory agencies is critical to the success of designing and
implementing safe and efficient traffic flow; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council respectfully requests consideration by state and
regional transportation regulatory agencies of measures to encourage interregional traffic flow
along Highway 152 as the primary route between the San Joaquin Valley and beyond to the
coastal regions of Northern California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Gilroy City Council herein
identifies the following three projects as the highest priority transportation projects for the area
by constructing four (4) lanes on Highway 152, Highway 156, and Highway 25.
