RESOLUTION NO. 2009-03
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
RECOGNIZING BILL F AUS FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF
GILROY
WHEREAS, after working as a planner for the Cities of Monterey and Lancaster, CA, in
September 1983, Bill Faus relocated his young family to Gilroy and began a long and successful
career with the City of Gilroy Planning Department, and
WHEREAS, over his 25 year career with the City, Bill promoted from an Assistant
Planner to the position of Planning Manager and was responsible for directing the current and
long-range planning activities for the City, and
WHEREAS, throughout the late 1990s and until its adoption in 2002, Bill worked
tirelessly with the General Plan Advisory Committee, and largely due to his efforts, secured
adoption of the City's General Plan that articulated the community's long-term vision for its
future, and
WHEREAS, subsequent to the adoption of the General Plan, Bill helped direct the work
efforts to secure adoption of many of the General Plan implementation programs, including the
Downtown Specific Plan, Glen Lorna Ranch Specific Plan, Hecker Pass Specific Plan,
Neighborhood District Policy, Agricultural Mitigation Program, etc., and
WHEREAS, Bill not only dedicated his professional life to the City of Gilroy, but he
also embraced the community and volunteered enormous amounts of his own time with the
Gilroy Garlic Festival, the Methodist Church, Rebakah's Children's Home, Saint Louise
Hospital, Boy Scouts of America, and serving food at the Armory, and
WHEREAS, over the past 25 plus years, Bill Faus has left his legacy and made
significant personal and professional contributions to the City of Gilroy, and
WHEREAS, Bill Faus is retiring as Planning Manager with the sincere gratitude and
appreciation of the Gilroy community and City Council for his years of dedicated public service.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, AL PINHEIRO, Mayor ofthe City of Gilroy and on behalf of
the entire City Council join in thanking
BILL FADS, PLANNING MANAGER
for his years of service, and on behalf of all the citizens of Gilroy, wish him well in retirement
for many years to come.
