Resolution 2010-47 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2010-47 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ADOPTING A NEW STREET NAME FOR PART OF THE STREET CURRENTLY NAMED GILMAN ROAD WHEREAS, pursuant to California Government Code section 34091.1, a City Council may by resolution change the name of an already existing street; and WHEREAS, Gilman Road is located west of US 101 in the City of Gilroy; and WHEREAS, Sixth Street is a city designated street name for this corridor and extends from Wren Avenue in the west to US 101; and WHEREAS, the construction of the Camino Arroyo Bridge has opened the City of Gilroy to increased travel for businesses, residents and visitors to the area, created a signalized intersection at Camino Arroyo and Sixth/Gilman; and WHEREAS, for public safety and to avoid confusion, the City desires to change the name of a portion of the name of Gilman Road to Sixth Street in the City of Gilroy; and WHEREAS, the City Council held a duly noticed public meeting on September 20, 2010, at which time it considered the Staff Report dated September 20,2010, public testimony and other documentation regarding the renaming of Gilman Road. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of Gilroy, that: A. The City Council hereby finds that it is in the public interest and promotes public safety to change the name of a portion of Gilman Road to "Sixth Street," as shown in Exhibit A. RESOLUTION NO. 2010-47 2 B. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Board of Supervisors pursuant to Government Code section 34092, and to those departments and agencies listed in Exhibit B, attached hereto.
