AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDTNG ORDINANCE NO. 569 BEING AN ORDINANCE
ADOPI'ING THE UNIFORM BUILDTNG CODE, BY ADDING TO SAID ORDINANCE AND BUILDING CODE,
PROVISIONS REr.ULATING GRADE OF LUMBER AND MEANS OF IDENTIFICATTON OF GRADE.
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOT,LOWS:
SECTION 1: That the Uniform Building Code, heretofore adopted by reference by
the Common Council of the City of Gilroy in and by Ordinance No. 569 be and the same
is hereby amended by the addition thereto of two new sections to be known as Section
2502A and 2502B, to read as follows:
SECTION 2502A: Lumber Identitication.
Any and all species of lumber designated or set for,th in Table No. 25A of said
Building Code shall be used only when identified by grade mark of, or certification
of inspection issued by, an approved lumber grading or inspection bureau or
agency approved by the Building Official; provided, however, that the foregoing
provision shall not apply to lumber that is six (6') feet or shorter in length.
SECTION 2502B: All structural framing shall be standard or better (or No.2
and better)with the exception that plate stock, subflooring, and sheathing
~except I" spaced roof sheathing) and 2" tongue and groove subflooring on 4'
spans or less may be Utility grade.
SECTION 2: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after
its adoption and approval.
SECTION J: All ordinances and aprts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
