Ordinance 644 ORDINANCE NO. 644 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SECTION 71 OF ORDI- NANCE NO. 480 (TRAFFIC ORDINANCE) ESTABLISHING INTERSECTIONS AND OTHER PLACES IN THE CITY OF GILROY AT WHICH STOP SIGNS SHALL BE PLACED STOPPING VEHICULAR TRAFFIC IN THE CITY GF GILROY BY REQUIRING STOP SIGNS TO BE PLACED ON EIGLEBERRY STREET AT BOTH THE NORTH AND SOUTH ENTRANCES TO FIFTH STREET, STOPPING NORTH AND SOUTH BOUND TRAFFIC AT SAID INTERSECTION. THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I: Section 71 of the Ordinance No. 480 of the City of Gilroy, Commonly designated as the Traffic Ordinance, as heretofore amended by Ordinance No. 640 ,is hereby further amended by adding to the intersections and places in the City of Gilroy at which Stop Signs shall be placed and at which vehicular traffic shall stop, to be known as 73, to read as follows: 73. On Eigleberry Street at its North and South entrances to Fifth Street, stopping North and South bound traffic on Eigleberry Street at Fifth Street. ~ECTION II: The Administrative Officer of the City of Gilroy shall require stop signs be placed at said inter- section to carry out the provisions of this Ordinance. SECTION XII: This Ordinance is an emergency Ordi- nance and shall take~fect immediately upon passage and approval. The facts constituting said emergency are as follows: Said intersection was, until a comparatively short time ago, one at which stop signs were erected on all four entrances to said intersectioni that in an effort to lessen the traffic on Monterey Street and divert part of it to Eigleberry Street, the Stop Signs were ordered removed from stopping both North and South bound traffic on Eigleberry Street at Fifth Street. After a trial under these conditions, it has developed that the intersection at Fifth and Eigleberry Streets is quite dangerous and that unless the stop signs are forthwith returned, stopping North and South bound traffic on Eigleberry Street, serious or fatal accidents may occur, and to prevent such occurrance or lessen the possibility thereof this Ordinance should be adopted immediately. SECTION IV: All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances - 1 - / ,I-I), !' I, {, 7- r in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of February, 1961, by the foIbwing vote.
