AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SECTION 8..a
AND SECTION 8.3 OF THE GILROY CITY CODE RELATING TO DANCES
AND DANCE HALLS AND THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS THEREFOR~ THE
TIME WITHIN WHICH PUBLIC DANCES MAY BE HELD AND REPEALING
SECTIONS 8.4, 8.5 and 8.6 OF THE SAID CODE.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 8.2 of the Gilroy City Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 8.2 Permit required; revocation thereof and
Police Protection.
It shall be unlawful for any person to give,
conduct, or carryon a public dance, or to
open or maintain a public dancehall without
first having procured from the City Administrator
a ?ermit in writing to do so.
When considered nEcessary to public safety and
welfare, the city administrator may require
the person operating or conducting a public
dance or dance hall to have a police officer
or officers present during the times that
dancing is in progress. The number of police
officers, if any, necessary to accomplish this
purpose shall be determined by the chief of
police, who shall communicate this information
to the City Administrator. Costs for special
police officers hired for this purpose shall
be paid by the permitee.
The permitee shall have the right of appeal to
the Council as to the necessity of police pro-
tection or the number of officers required by
the chief of police.
Any dance permit may be revoked by the Council
if a public dance or dance hall is conducted in

such a manner as to be detrimental to the safety
and welfare and public healtho of the public.
Section 2. Section 8.3 of the Gilroy City Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 8.3 Time Limitation on Dances.
All public dance halls shall close at 2:00 a.m.,
and it shall be unlawful for any person to permit
any public dance hall to remain open or to con-
duct or carryon or assist in conducting or
carrying on any public dance between the hours
of 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. of the same day.
Section 3. Sec. 8.4, Sec. 8.5 and Sec. 8.6 of said Gilroy
City Code are hereby repealed.
Section 4. All ordinances, and parts of ordinances, in conflict
with this ordinance, are herby repealed.
Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force 30 days after the date of passing and approval.
