ORDINANCE NO. 704
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SEC. 6.1 OF
THE GILROY CITY CODE BY MAKING THE EXCEPTION FOUND IN SEC.
1704 OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE: APPLICABLE TO FIRE ZONES
NUMBER TWO AND THREE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the exception set forth in Sec. 1704 of the
Uniform Building Code shall be and is hereby amended to read as
follows:
EXCEPTION: Roofs of cedar or redwood shakes having a
nominal thickness of one inch (111) at the butt may be
used in building of Group F, Division 2, Occupancies of
Type V construction, where there are no general require-
ments for fire.resistance, provided that the horizontal
clearance between cornice and property line, except street
fronts, is not less than ten feet (10"). This provision
shall be applicable only in Fire Zones No.2 and 3. When
installed in Fire Zone No. 2 an exterior sprinkling system
approved by the Building Official shall be required as a
condition to such installation.
SECTION 2. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force thirty (30) days from and after its passage and approval.
