Ordinance 752 ORDINANCE NO. 752 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SEC. 15.102 OF THE GILROY CITY CODE DESIG- NATING TRUCK TRAFFIC ROUTES IN THE CITY OF GILROY BY EXTENDING THE TRUCK ROUTE ON LEWIS STREET FROM ALEXANDER STREET TO RAILROAD STREET, AND ESTABLISH- ING AN ADDITIONAL TRUCK ROUTE ON FOREST STREET BETWEEN OLD GILROY STREET AND LEWIS STREET AND LIMITING THE GROSS WEIGHT OF A VEHICLE AND LOAD TO 20,000 POUNDS THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section I: Sec. 15.102 of the Gilroy City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 15.102. Designation. In accordance with section 15.100, when properly signposted and designated by appropriate signs, the following streets or portions of streets shall constitute and are hereby designated as truck traffic routes: a. Alexander Street from Ninth Street to Old Gilroy Street, Old Gilroy Street from Alexander to Railroad street, and Railroad Street from Old Gilroy Street to Lewis Street. b. Murray Avenue from Leaves1ey Road to I.O.O.F. Avenue, I.O.O.F. Avenue from Murray Avenue to Forest Street, Forest Street from IoO.O.F. Avenue to Lewis Street, and Lewis Street from Forest Street to Railroad Street. c~ Ninth Street between Route 101 and Old Gilroy Street. d. Casey Street from Route 101 to Swanston Lane, and along Swanston Lane to Leaves1ey Road. e. Forest Street from Old Gilroy Street to Lewis Street. On the truck route established in this subdivision on Forest Street the gross weight of a vehicle and load shall not exceed 20,000 pounds. Section II: All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section III: This is an emergency ordinance and necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety and shall go into immediate effect. The facts constituting such necessity are as follows: The heavy truck traffic season for local traffic to and through Gilroy is at hand. Farm produce and crops are being transported into the City of Gilroy, and it is neces- sary and in the best interests of the inhabitants of said City that the said trucks follow the routes hereinabove specified in order to create as little disturbance in the residential areas of the City as possible and without the establishment of the said routes and (1) (-1 I') )'~/-L . ~ .../............1 all of them, trucks will be routed through portions of the residence areas of the City at a 11 hours of the day and ni ght, the sa i d n.i ght traffic being especially disturbing to the residential areas and the people living therein and should be prevented at as early a date as possible. Without truck routes the truck operators wi 11 use the shortest and quickest route to the canneries or other operators to whom the produce and crops are being delivered and such routes go through residential areas of the city indiscriminately and over streets some of which have not been con- structed to withstand the weight of the heavy truckloads. This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Council held on September 7, 1965, and was ordered publ ished !:>y title and summary at least once within fifteen (15) days after its adoption, in accordance with the charter of the City of Gilroy by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERs:Allemand,Duffin,Eckard, Goodrich,Quartiroli,Wentworth & Petersen.
