AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SEC.
15.11 OF THE GILROY CITY CODE BY ADDING A PRO-
VISION FIXING THE SPEED LIMIT OF MOTOR VEHICLES
ON MILLER AVENUE FROM FIRST STREET TO ITS INTER-
SECTION WITH THE WESTERLY CITY LIMITS OF GILROY
AND OTHERWISE AMENDING SAID SECTION.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECT ION I:
Sec. 15.11 of the Gilroy City Code is hereby amended to read
as follows:
Sec. 15.11 SPEED LIMITS - AT DESIGNATED PLACES.
When authorized signs are in place as set
forth in Sec. 15.12 giving notice thereof
no person shall drive or operate any vehicle
on the following public streets in the City
of Gilroy in excess of the speed applying to
the respective streets as follows:
{a) Upon Leavesley Road between Monterey
Street and Murray Avenue at a speed in excess
of thirty-five miles per hour. Traffic signs
shall be erected along the northerly side of
said street one hundred fifty feet east of
the easterly line of Murray Avenue giving
notice to west bound traffic that the speed
limit on Leavesley Road is thirty-five miles
per hour and a similar sign shall be erected
on the southerly side of Leavesley Road fifty
feet east of the Southern PacnrRailroad Com-
pany right of way notifying east bound traffic
that the speed limit on said street is thirty-
five miles per hour.
(b) On Miller Avenue between First Street and
the intersection of said Miller Avenue
with the Westerly City Limits of the City of
Gilroy, traffic signs shall be placed at the
intersection of Miller Avenue with First Street,
on the westerly side of Miller Avenue at the
northerly intersection thereof with Sixth
Street and at the intersection of the Westerly
City Limits of the City with, said Miller Avenue
notifying north and south bound traffic upon
said portion of said avenue that the speed limit
thereon is not in excess of twenty-five miles per
hour.
SECT ION II:
All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances of the City of Gilroy
in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

SECTION III:
This is an emergency measure and shall take effect immediately
upon its passage and approval; the reasons for the existence of
said emergency are as follows:
Teenagers and others have been and are operating and driving
vehicles at excessive and dangerous speed upon that portion of said
Miller Avenue upon which speed limits are herein set forth and
restricting the speed limits upon all of said avenue to twenty-five
miles per hour will serve to prevent accidents and injuries from oc-
curring thereon.
The foregoing Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of
the Council of the City of Gilroy held November 20th, 1967 and
adopted to take effect immediately as an emergency measure for the
