Ordinance 908 ORDINANCE NO. 908 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 782 AND PROVIDING FOR SALARIES FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. WHEREAS, Gilroy City Ordinance No. 782, adopted January 3, 1967, provides for a salary for the Mayor of $150.00 per month and for Councilmen of $25.00 per regular meeting, and WHEREAS, all members of the Council are required to devote extensive and increasing amounts of time outside of regular meetmgs on such city business as committee meetings, study sessions, budget sessions, special meetings, inter-city meetings, county transportation, housing and other committee meetings, area flood control, water quality, ABAG and other such meetings, and WHEREAS, all members of the Council should be paid a monthly salary for their services, rather than only for attendance at regular meetings, and WHEREAS,by way of comparison, Government Code Sections 36516 and 36516.1 provide, as to general law cities the size of Gilroy with a population of between 5,000 and 35,000 population, that the City Council may enact an ordinance providing for a salary of $150.00 per month for each member of the Council and for additional compensation for a separately elected Mayor, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 10 Gilroy City Ordinance No. 782 is hereby repealed. SECTION II. Members of the Gilroy City Council shall be paid the following salaries for their services: (a) Each councilman shall receive a salary of $100.00 per month beginning on July 1, 1971 and thereafter. (b) The Mayor shall receive a salary of $200.00 per month beginning on July 1, 1971 and thereafter. (c) In the event any member of the Council is absent {fo c: from more than two regular meetings of the Council in any fiscal year, one-twenty fourth of his annual pay shall be deducted for the third absence and each absence thereafter. SECTION III. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after July 1, 1971, which is more than thirty (30) days from and after its adoption and approval.
