ORDINANCE NO. 978
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 908 AND PROVIDING
FOR SALARIES FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, Gilroy City Ordinance No. 908, adopted February 1,
1971, provides for a salary for the Mayor of $200.00 per month
and for Councilmen of $100.00 per month, with one twenty-fourth
of annual pay to be deducted for the third and subsequent absences
during any fiscal year, and
WHEREAS, all members of the Council are required to devote
extensive and increasing amounts of time outside of regular
meetings on such city business as committee meetings, study sessions,
budget sessions, special meetings, inter-city meetings, county
transportation, housing and other committee meetings, area flood
control, water quality, ABAG and other such meetings, and
WHEREAS, all members of the Council should be paid a monthly
salary for their services, without deduction for absences from
regular meetings,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Gilroy City Ordinance No. 908 is hereby repealed.
SECTION II. Members of the Gilroy City Council shall be paid
the following salaries for their services:
(a) Each councilman shall receive a salary of $100.00
per month beginning on July 1, 1973 and thereafter.
(b) The Mayor shall receive a salary of $200.00 per
month beginning on July 1, 1973 and thereafter.
SECTION III. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in
full force from and after July 1, 1973, which is more than thirty
(30) days from and after its adoption and approval.

The foregoing Ordinance was introduced and published by
title and summary at a regular meeting of the Council held on
February 5, 1973, and was finally adopted at a regular meeting
of said Council held on February 20, 1973, by the following vote:
