AN ORDINANCE OF Tt~ CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SECTION
2.1, AND REPEALING SECTIONS 2.44 (6) and 2~45 (g) OF
THE GILROY CITY CODE, AND ENACTING CHAPTER 2 ARTICLE
XVI CREATING THE DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING,
SECTION I~
adding thereto;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS;
Section 2~1 of the Gilroy City Code is amended by
Department of planning Director of planning
SECTION II, Section 2,44 (6) and Section 2,45 (g) of the Gilroy
City Code are hereby repealed,
SECTION III, Chapter 2 Article XVI of the Gilroy City Code is
enacted to read as follows;
Article XVI.
Sec. 2.70. Creation.
Department of Planning
The department of planning is hereby created.
Sec. 2.71. Director of planning--Appointment,
The department of planning shall be under the direct super-
vision of the director of planning who shall be appointed by
the city administrator with consent of the council,
Sec. 2.72. Same--Powers and duties,
The director of planning shall be responsible for and be
required to:
(1) GENERAL PLAN, Prepare and administer a general
plan for the order-~ development of the city, including
such precise plans and policy plan as may be deemed
essential,
(2) STUDIES AND SURVEYS; Conduct studies, surveys
and other inveStI~-~tiOns considered necessary to prepare
for the city's future development,
(3) SUBDIVISION REVIEW: Make recommendations, together
with the department of public works on the acceptability of
proposed subdivisions and their compliance with minimum
requirements for public facilities, street and traffic
patterns, land use regulations and necessary dedicati~ns

(4) ENVIRO~NT IMPACTS: Consider and make recommen-
dations on environmental'impacts of any plans and studies,
Review and make recommendations to insure a high quality
environment in and around the city, Administer the
environmental impact report process,
(5) ZONING ORDINANCE; Administer the zoning ordinance
together"with th~"bhild-£ng division and investigate and
report on requests for variances, use ~permits and applications
for zoning changes,
(6) PLANNING COMMISSION: Provide all necessary staff
assistance to t-lie planning commission, attend all meetings,
and act as its secretary,
SECTION IV, Ail other ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed,
SECTION V. 'This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force
thirty (30) days from and after its adoption and approval,
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of May, 1976, by the following
