AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GILROY AMENDING CHAPTER 16, SECTION 16.6-1,
REGARDING THE NUMBER OF CARDROOM PERMITS
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy's Cardroom Ordinance, Section 16.6-1 et
seq. of the Gilroy City Code, allows no more than two permits for cardrooms to
be issued, thereby limiting the number of cardrooms within the City to two; and
WHEREAS, at this time, the City has issued only one cardroom permit,
and there is only one cardroom in operation within the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that to protect the
public health, safety, and welfare, the City Council, upon the advice of the Chief
of Police, desires to further restrict the number of cardroom permits.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I
Chapter 16, Section 16.6-1(d), entitled "Limitation on nmuber of permits" is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"16.6-1(d). Limitation on number of permits.
At no time shall the city issue more than one (1) cardroom permit."
SECTION II
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after the date of its
passage and adoption.
