The regular monthly meeting of the Common Couno il is called to
or'der by His Honor Mayor S.D.Heck.
Present:Counoilmen George Milias,.Jr.,Jaok Rogers,J.H.Rush,George
A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner. Absent:Counoilman- None.
Minutes 0 f the meetin~or May 4th and June 1st are read and
approved.
Dr.E..J.Chesbro,chairman of the Water Conservation Comrlittee
appears before the Council to request the underwriting by the

Motion by Counoilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried that the City underwrite the Water Conservation committees
. advertising expense to the amount of $100. sl;l,ied aIIDunt to be
returned to the City if the district is formed.
Mr.R.M.Martin,Dr.H.R.Chesbro,Messers.T.H.UnderVlood, F.E.Barney,
H.S.Hersman and R.M.Thomas appear before the Counoil requesting
that the alleys within the city be oiled.No. action is taken.
~~.H.P.Atkinson appears before the Counoil requesting a donation
of $300. to send the Gitroy High School band to the National band
contest to be held in Los Angeles. No action is taken.
Mr..John Gaspar representing the I.D.E.S. appears before the Council
to req~estta permit for his organization to hold its annual
celebration,parade,danoe and fireworks;and to close Forest Street
fm~ Old Gilroy street to the depth of the organizations property.
The Clerk is instructed to issue '-he:!XEf:q~este:ct.permit.

The 'Clerk is instructed to open the bids for the change-over of
the deep wel~ pump located at the corner of North Monterey street
Martin Lane,City of Gilroy.
One bid is presented and r~ad~ .
IJotion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried
that the bid of Layne & Bowler Corporation Of $1178.8~)plus Sales Tax
,.... of 3~, less 3% cash discount for payment 30 days from date of shipment,
..... 16 inch bowls. to be specifie4,'be accepted.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried that $5000. be transferred from the Water Fund to the General
Fund.
Motion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Rogers and carried
that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on
the Treasurer.
Motion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried
that the Council adjourn sine die.
Mayor Heck thanks Councilman RuSh,retiring from the Council,for
his untiring efforts on behalf of the city for the past eight years.

GeorgeA.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat. Heiner. Absent: Councilman None.
Mayor Heck announces the appointment of Councilman Rogers as
chairman of the Sewer Committee; Councilman Milias,chairman of the
street Committee and Councilman Mason as a member of the street
Committee.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried that .James S.Byers be appointed City Attorney for the

ensuing two years.

The chairman of the Fire Department Committee is authorized to
to instruct the City Marshal to have all work stopped on signs
being placed at 723 North Monterey street,until a ~ermit is granted.
Mr..John Roffinella requests a 200 fost extension of the sewer
line on North Chestnut street.
The Street Committee is instructed to ascertain the cost of oiling
the alleys within the city limits.

carried that the city sign located at the southeast corner of
Monterey and Old Gilroy streets be moved to a location near the
south city limits.
Motion by Councilman Eeiner,seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried unanimously that ~300. be donated to the Gilroy High School
Band Fund to help defray their expenses to the ITational Band Contest
to be held in Los Angeles.
A communication from Chesbro & Eustice is read,stating that no
additional premium would be required on the city's public liability
insurance to cover the activities elm: the Community Recreation Com-
missionls program.
Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman M:artin and
carried that the bonds of City Clerk P.A.Cox,City Treasurer P.H.
Tremaine and City Marshal A.G.Goodrich be accepted.
