Minutes 1940/10/21 586 Gilroy,California. October 2~,1940. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Cou~cil is called to order by IIis Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr. Present: Councilmen: George A.Martin,George M.Mason,James Battersby, Nat Heiner. Absent:Councilmen: Jack Rogers,J.H.TIentworth. An application from local painters to use the City Hall meeting room for the purpose of organizing a local union, November 1st, is presented. No objection is made. The Mayor states that~ request has been made by the National Labor Relations Board for use of the City Hall meeting room,during the day of November 1st, for the purpose of holding an election. It is unanimously agreed that this request be granted. Motion by Councilman Mason, seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried that the final payment of $2,175.12 be made to L.C.Karstedt for the improvement of Railroad Street. 1 I I 587 The matter of School Zone traffic signs 1s discussed. The Clerk is instructed to infcrm the lo~al Elks lodge of the in- ~rmation contained in a letter from the Division of Highways 8ta~ing that the uniform School Zone traffic sign is the only sign that can be used on State Highways. The Clerk is also instructed to ascertain if the Elks lodge desires to purchase these signs. Councilman 1~son states that a request has been made by the Rural Fire Department to plaoe two stubs on the Fourth Street water line extension, the property owners to stand the entire expense of this work. Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Mason and carried that the Gilroy Rural Fire Department be permitted to place two stubs on the Fourth street water line extension, all expense connected with this work to be borne by the property owners. Councilman Martin states that the Golf Club has asked that the city purchase materials inthe amount of approximately $25.00,said materials to be used in making repairsto the caretakers house. This matter is placed in the hands of the Building and Grounds Committee wi th power to ao t. A oommunication is read from Captain Ceoil Carlyle, chairman of the auditorium dedication committee, stating that the committee voted unanimously to name the municipal auditorium, "Wheeler Civic Auditorium". Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Counoilman Battersby and carried that the new municipal building be designated "Wheeler Civic Auditorium". The matter of a oornerstone for the new building was ordered plaoed in the hands of the Auditorium Building Committee. Adjourned subject to the oall of the chair. Ci.~. ~ City Clerk. '"
