This regular monthly meeting of the Common council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr.
Present:Counoilmen: Geolge A.Martin,George M.Mason,Jack Rogers,
James Battersby,Nat Heiner,J .H. Wentworth. Absent: Counc limen: None.
Minutes of the meetings of February 3rd and 1?th,1941 are read
and approved.
The matter of sidewalk repairs throughout the city is discussed,
report of the Superintendent of Streets showing 92 pieces of
defective sidewalk. The City Attorney suggests that the City Clerk
write a letter of each of the property owners on the list calling
their attention to the condition of the sidewalk fronting their
prop3rty and allowing them forty-five days from the date of the
letter to have the sidewalk placed in proper repair otherwise the
City will make the repairs ani oharge the eost to the property
owner.
Motion by Councilman . Mart in, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the Clerk wri te a letter to each one 0 f the pr 012 rty
owners whose name appears on the list prepared by the Superintendent
of Streets, notifying them of the condition of the sidewalk fronting
then- property, requesting that the proper repairs be made,that 45
days ,!from,dawd.of letter, be allowed to make the necessary repairs,
that at the end of the forty-five day period a survey will be made
and all sidewalks not in proper repair will be repaired by the City
and charged to the property owner.
The sale of the Old Septic Tank property,Old Gilroy and East
streets, is disoussed. The City Attorne7 is instruoted to ascertain
if East Seventh Street right of way is inoluded in the city's prop-

erty.
The Mayor announces that he has appminted Messers.W.B.Stuart,
A.W.Brown and J.E.Ayer to act as an appraisal committee for land
effected by the opening of an alley from Third Street to Fourth
Street, between Monterey and Eigleberry streets.
Counc 1lman Rogers reports that investigat ion 0 f the plac ing of a
street light on South Forest Street, near East Seventh Street, has
been made and the ligh t will be installed in the near future.
City Engineer W.J.Hanna reports on the matter of straightening
the slough in the rear 0 f the Filice & Perrelli Cannery stat ing
that the Trustees of the Orphans Home and the Cannery management

were agreed on the matter.
The matter of placing a ditch along the East side of North Forest

Street, north of I.O.O.F.Avenue, is discussed.
The matter of impro.ving the street around the Southern Pacific
depot is discussed. The City Engineer states that an, engineer
from the railroad company had discussed the matter with him and the
oompany has requested an outline of the proposed work.
Councilman Mason announces that the fence along Burchell Road,on
the City Reservoir property,had been completed.
The Mayor states he has received a letter from the Electrical
~roduots Corporation of~ring the change the City Signs and to
continue the monthly payments of $32.00.
It is the unanimous opinion of the Council that the Signs remain
as they are at the present time and the Clerk is instructed to
ascertain the maintenance cost under this _rragsement.
The City Attorney reports that a search has been made for a right
of way for an alley through the property of Ida S.Blanding and Ouida
Fenwick,portion of Lot 1,Block 5 North, Range 1 West, and that no
right-of- way exists.
The Clerk is instructed to write to Mr.E.M.Rea, attorney for Ida
S.Blanding and Ouida Fenwiok" asking for the necessary easement for
a twenty foot alley through this property.
The Clerk i8 instructed to advise Mr.Oliver E.Brown,Su:rerintendent
of Schools, that a street light'will be plaoed at Second and Carmel
Streets, as requested by him.
Notification of Transfer of Liquor License from Chas.Bontadelli
and Wm.Locatelli,d.b.a. Central Cafe, to Chas.Bontadelli and Matt
Ramazane, is presented. No objection is made.

Counoilman Heiner disousses a request
from Mrs.Marie Winkler to
out the curb in front of her property on South Monterey Street, in
the event a service station is erected on the property. No objeotion
is made to cutting the curb but all work must be done under the
sure rvlsion of the St~eet.CoDDii:trtee:\afid the Surerintement of Streets.
Reports of the City Officers are presented and read.
Motion by Councilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the reports be accepted as read and plaoed on file.
Counoilman Mason disousses the request made by a local meroan'ile
establi~ent to use the list of city water customers fOT the purpose
ot obtaining a mailing list.
It is the unanimous opinion of the Counoil that the list of city
water oustomers shall.not be used for the purpose of obtaining a
mailing list.
Motion by Counoilman Martin, seoonded by Councilman Wentworth and
oarried that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered
drawn on the Treasurer.
