This regular adjourned meeting of the Connnon Counc il is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr.,
Present:Counoilmen:George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Jack Rogers,
Nat Heiner,J.H.Wentworth. Absent:Councilmen:James Battersby.

This being the time specified in a public notice calling for bids
for the widening of North MOnterey Street between Leavesley Road and
the North City Limits, two bids are presented and read.
N.M.Ball and Son-$7250.60; G.C.Renz-$64l9.27.
Motion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the bid 0' G.C.Renz of f6419.27 to widen North Monterey

Street from Leavesley Road to the North City Limits, be accepted,
subject to the approval of the Division of Highways, the Clerk to
retain certified checks or bid bonds accompanying the bids until
the approval of the bid by the Division of Highways.
The matter of the erection of a building on South Monterey Street,
North of 8th Street, by Saiche ]ujimoto, said bmilding being erected
without a building permit, is now discussed.
It is the unanimous opinion of the Counoil that the building should
be placed 80 feet back frool the inside line of the sidewalk instead of
71 feet; that the laft should be left in its present location ;the
inside walls of the building shall be covered with galvanized sheets
and the balance of Building Permit NS No.208, be approved.
A communication is read from Mr.Joe Leonardini offering to pay
$55.00 a year rent for a portion of the Old Septic tank property
located at Old Gilroy and East Streets. A money order in the amount
of $55;00 accompanied the letter.
It is the unanimous decision to take up the matter of renting the
old septic tank property after the chairman of the Building and Grounds
committee has had an opportunity to discuss the matter with r~.

Seven applications for the position of Night Officer are presented
am read:
Max Devine,Ernest Barozzi,Albert S.Johnson,Emil Zamzow,George D.
BroVlnlee,Harold Sturla and Melvin Ketchum.
It is unanimously agreed that a secret ballot should be taken to
select one of the applicants for the position of Night Officer.
Five ballots are passed out and five ballots returned.
Result of the ballot: Ernest Barozzi-5 votes.
Moti. on by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried that Ernest Barozzi be employed as Night Officer at a salary
of :,p150.00 per month and that he hold office at the pleasure of the
Counci 1.
Motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that Traffic Officer Norroon Goodrich be sent to the Fifth
Annual California Technical Institute of Peace Officers' Training
school to be held at the University of California,July 28th to
August 9th, the city to allow him nominal expenses.
