This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr.
Present:Councilmen:George M.Mason,Jack Rogers,Nat Heiner,J.H.
Wentworth. Absent:Councilmen:George A.Martin,James Battersby.
Minutes of the meetings of July 7th and JUly 10th and minutes
of the meetings of the Board of Equalization held July l8th,21st
and 23rd,194l, are read and approved.
Motion by Councilman !~son, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the 1941-1942 Assessment Roll, as prepared by the
City Clerk, be accepted.
A communication is read from Logan & Frazier,auditors, offering
to audit the city books and records for the period, July 1,1941 to
Jum 30,1942, for the tots 1 sum 0 f $200.00, payable an the am::mnt
of $50.00 per quarter at the end of each quarterly audit.

The annual report of audit, prepared by Logan & Frazier,certified
public accountants, is now presented and read.
Motion by Councilman Wentworth, seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried that the annual audit report of Logan & Frazier, city auditors,
be accepted and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman Mason, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that Logan & Frazier, American mrust Building,San Jose,Calif-
ornia, certified public accountants, be granted the contract to audit
the city's booksand accounts for the period July 1,1941 to June 30,
1942 ,audits to be made quarterly,for the sum of $200.00 for the year,
payable,~50.00 at the end of each quarterly audit.
The Y~yor reports that the Building Code Committee is working on a
combined Building,Electrical and Plumbing Code and that the City
Att~rney has requested the League of California Cities to furnish
the committee with sample codes.
The City Engineer is instructed to secure the cost of certain
materials for use in the proposed work on drainage on North Forest
Street.
Councilman Heiner discusses the condition of the west door of the
Fire Station and presents quotation for a new Barcol door-$188.00
This matter is placed in charge of the Fire Committee with power
to act.
Mr.H.E.Robinson of the Gilroy Free Public Library Board now appears
beft re the Counc il to discuss the necessity 0 f a new roof for the
. library building. Iwr. Robinson states that ~~.. proposals were sent
to thr:ee roofing contractors and only one responded,namely the Miller
Roofing Company bidding $310.00 to place a Johns-I~nsville roof on
the library building.
Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and
carried that the sum.:of $310.00 be allowed the library board for
placing a new roof on the library building, the work to be done under
the direction of the library board.
The Mayor now presents a list of proposed salary increases for
several city employees.
Motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and
carried that the slary of Chas.Shields be increased from ~130.00 per
month to $135.00 per month;the salary of C.J.Weppener be increased
from ;~140.00 per month to $150.00 per month; that the salary of
Elmer Hoover be mncreased from $105.00 per month to ~lIO.OO per

month;the salary of G.B.Carr be increased from $90.00 per month to
$95.00 per month (Water Collector);the salary of J.E.Pruett be in-
creased from $40.00 per month to $45.00 per month;the salary of Joe
Sartor be increased from $100.00 per month to $105.00 per month;the
salary of Mike Martin be increased from $100.00 per month to $105.00
per month; the salary of Leland Eustice be increased from ~140.00 per
month to ~150.00 per month;the salary of Irvine otto be increased from
$115.00 per month to ~~120.00 per month, all increases to be effective

BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the
City of Gilroy: That the intersection of Sixth Street and
Forest Street within said City, is hereby designated as a
public highway; that vehicles shall be stopped before
entering Sixth street at both entrances thereto from said
Forest Street; that such entrance to Sixth Street from Forest
Street shall be clearly marked and signposted to give notice
of such fact, pursuant to the prOVisions of Sections 466, 468,
and 471 of the Vehicle Code of the State of California, and/or
other sections of said Vehicle Code applicable thereto.
ADOPTED AND PASSED this 4th day of August, A.D., 1941,

The Mayor announces that the local telephone company is ready to
remove their wires from North Monterey street and the officials of
the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company will be contacted to dis-
cuss the routing of their wires over a new route.
Councilman :Mason discusses a request made by Messers Vernon Wills
an2. Norman Peterson, Noith Monterey Street, to place oil mix over the
sidewalk in front of their property. No action is taken.
Councibnan Mason discusses the purchase,for the water department,
of a chest of drawers for addrtissograph plates. This matter ~ placed
in the hands of the Water Comnittee with power to act.
Councilman Heiner discusses a building pennit issued to Raffaele

out does not oonform to the permit and drawing and penuit issued to
Mr.Filadora July 28,194l. (Building Permit NS No.211)
The Clerk is instruoted to notify 1~.Filadora, by mail, that the
work must stop and that he shall build accordi~~ to the diagram
attached to the building permit; that if the building is completed

Reports of city officers are Fresented and read.
Motion by councilman Mason, seconded by Councilman Heiner ahd:.
carried that the reports of city officers be accepted as read and
