Minutes 1941/08/18 628 Gilroy,California. August 18,1941. Thi s regular ad journed meeting of the Common Counc il is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr. I I Present:Councilmen:Gearge A.1~rtin,George M.Mason,Jack Rogers, James Battersby,J.H.Wentworth. Absent:Councilmen:Nat Heiner. Councilman Rogers discusses the need for repairs of the levee at the sewer farm and quotes an offer from Mr.George Bird O~ $600.00, to 4o.tbis,work..::,T:he Clerk is instructed to write to Mr.L.C. Karstedt,Watsonville,Calif.,and ask that he contact Councilman Rogers in regard to this work. Councilman Martin disousses the condition of North Chestnut street at the point where 1* crosses Miller Slough. It is suggested that permanent barricades be placed on the north and south banks of the slough, closing Chestnut street as a through street at these points. .. The City Engineer now presents drawingsand figures for the North Forest street drainage problem. No action is taken. The Clerk now presents the proposed budget for the fiscal year 1941-1942. During the discussion on the budget the following items were added:$700.00 to Storm;;Drains for the purpose of completing work ~ 6 ') () _. f work on Miller Slough;;~500.00 for levee repairs at the Sewer Farm; $600.00 for a motor maintainer for the Street Department;$100.00 for city Attorney's expenses. Motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Martin and carried that the budget for the fiscal year 1941-1942, with the noted additions, the total amount being $93,059.00, be accepted. Mo-tion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Counc tIman Battersby and carried that the tax rate for the fiscal year 1941-1942 be $1.00 on the $100.00 assessed valuation, distributed as follows: Total :!p.1800 .2350 .0800 . 0500 .100Q .3550 $1.0000 Water Works Improvement Bonds,1923 Sewage Disposal Bonds,192? Motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and carried that the Shell Oil Company through Triumph Explosives,Inc., be granted a permit to hold a fire works display at Wheeler Field, August 30,1941. Traffic Officer Norman Goodrich now appears before the Council to thank the Council for sending him to the Peace Officers Training School, held at the University of California,.Tuly 28 to August 9, 1941, and present a brief report on subjects studied at the school.
