This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is ~alled to
order by His Honor ~~yor George C.Milias,Jr.
Present:Councilmen:George A.~~rtin,George M.Mason,Jack Rogers,
James Battersby,Nat Heiner. Absent:Councilmen:J.H.Wentworth.
Minutes of the meetings of August 4th,18th and 25th and September
1st and 2nd are read and approved.
A comraunication is read from the District Attorney relative to
the Industrial Farm to be established by the county. No action is
taken.
A communication is read fram the Southern Pacific Company stating
that appropriation had been made to repair all crossings within the
the city and t he matter of repairing the street in the iIIlI!B diate
vicinity o~ the depot is being investigated.
A communication is read from Tom Sifton, Harley-Davidson motorcycle
agent, offering to trade the city's present motorcycle for a new model.
No action is taken.
RESOLUTION NO. 134 is presented and read.
Motion by Councibnan Rogers, seconded by Councilman Heiner that
RESOLUTION NO. 134 be adopted.

ADOPTING BUDGET AND APPROVING
MEMORA11DUM OF JGREEMENT FOR EXPENDITURE OF
1/4 CE1Jr GAS T.A.:K ALlOCATED FOR STREETS OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE.
'WHEREAS, a memorandum 0 f agreement has been presented
to be entered into with the State of California in accord-

ance with a project statement for expenditure of tl~ 1/4
cent gas tax for the fiscal year 1942 allocated for
streets of major importance other than State highways in
the City of Gilroy ; and
VffiEREAS, the Cormnon Council has heard read said agree-
ment in full and is familiar with the contents thereof;

THEREFORE, be it resolved by the CO~llon Council of the
City of Gilroy that said project statement be and is
hereby adopted as the budget of proposed expenditures of
the 1/4 cent gas tax allocated for streets of major imp-
ortance other than State highways, and said agreement be
and the same is hereby approved and the mayor and the
city clerk are directed to sign the same on behalf of
said city, said agreement to be binding upon the city
upon its execution by the autlmrized officials of the
State.
Adopted and passed this 3rd day of September, 1941,
by the following vote:

A cOnIDlunication is read fram Foster & Kleiser relative to placing
a sign board on the property o~ N~s.Virginia McAlpine, North Monterey
Street. Thi s matter is placed in the hands 0 f the cha irman of the
Fire Committee for action.
The Clerk is authorized to write to the Office of Production Manag-
gment requesting a blanket permit for priority of meterials and
supplies used by the city. The CleEk is also authorized to sign
a Gust amer' s Affidavit of Defense Requirements for the Neptune Meter
Company.

Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the St~ of $5,000.00 be transferred from the Water Fund
to the General Fund.

Councibnan Heiner announces tlmt the Ordinance Committee will be
prepared to present the first draft of the Uniform Building Code,
the Electrical,Plumbing and Standard Gas Code at the next meeting of
the Counc il.
Counc ilman Heiner dis cusses the need for hose for the fire dep:l rtment
to rep lace hos e that has been in s erv ice for a number of ye ars.

lUUerican Rubber at a cost of ~1.25 per foot.
Councilman Rogers announces that he will meet with N~.L.C.Karstedt
and discuss the work needed on the levee at the Sewer Farm.
Traffic Officer Norman Goodrich reports on cost of radio telephone
equipment for the Police Department. Councibnan Hogers and Officer
Goodrich are l'eques ted to investi gate this matter further, part-
icularly with respect to arrangements with the telephone company
and a guarantee fram the Karr Engineering Company.
City Engineer W.J.Hanna reports progress on the North Monterey
Street widening work and states that Ntr.Ed.Howorth has agreed to
do the necessary work on I.iiller Slough in the rear of the Filice
and Perrelli Cannery and fram the Forest Street bridge to the

I.O.O.F.Avenue bridge for a the sum of ~300.00.
