This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.IJilias,Jr. Present: Counc ilmen George A. Ivlart in, George M. Llason, Jack Rogers, James Battersby,Nat Heiner. Absent: Councilmen J.B.Wentworth. ~ 6-~ nil A comlfmnication is read from the Postmaster thanking the Llayor and Council fortmfL:uaeof the city hall audi torium duri~s the Alien Reg- istration. The Mayor states that the Improved Order of Redmen are making prog- ress filling in the 'excavation on their lot on West 6th street. The matter of rental charge for the auditorium of the City Hall ~I build ing is di scussed. 'rhe matter 0 l' arranging a schedule for rent ~ to be charged is left to Councilman IJartin to investigate.and report at the next meeting. The matter of rotating the sobriety test examinations illuong the several doctors in the comrmni ty, is discussed. The City Marshal states that a list of doctors is posted in his office and the officers have been instructed to call~ on the doctors in the order in which their names appear on this list. The Traffic Officer states that SOllie of the doctors have stated that the:r do not care to do this work, Councilman Rogers asks that the Council instruct the Clerk to write a letter of recomLlendation for ]~.Harold Higgins, a former res ident 0 l' thi s cormmni ty, who is seeking a cornr.1ission in the United ~~ I States Army Air Corps. The ':Jouncil unanimously grants this request. '......, The Mayor now discusses an increase in salary for the Pounilluaster. Eat ion by Counc ilInan Rogers, seconded by Councilman Hart in and carried that the salary of the Pounillnaster be increased from ~25.00 per month to $30.00 per month, effective March 1,1942. 'llhe Llayor now discusses the Batter of ~crease in salary for the City Larshal and City Clerk. Motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Mason and carried that the salaries of the city IJarshal and City Clerk be set at ~175.00 per month each, effective .Tune 1,1942. 'Ji ty Engineer YI..T. Hanna reports that the propo sed alley from 7th street to 8th Street:s:,between Eigleberry and Churbh st~eets, will be ~ I ready for opening very shortly. , I .......,; The Mayor now presents the estimate of Mr.George C.Renz, contractor, to repair the front of the building owned by Pasquale LalJacchia,located at 31 liort h l,lont ere y Street, as 1'0 Ilmvs: cost to rel)lace front as it was origil1ally-~452.00;nev'l brick front-:,p?15.00;new building to reI)lace frame contriliction-IT,3041.00. The Mayor now requests that the Counc il go, as a group,to view the building. Reports of the City Officers are presented and read. 658 Eot ion bJ! Councilman L:ason discusses the extension of a VIater line to the Vlareco build ing on South Llonterey Road. This matter is placed in the hands of the 1,'iater Committee. The Mayor announces that the Police radio set-up has been completed and invi teA the Coune ilmen to ride in the Poli ce car while a test -s.s being made. The condition of the Police car is now discussed by the 1hyor. Eot ion by Counc ilman Eeiner, seconded by Counc ilrdan Hogers and carried that the Police car be overhauled at a cost of approximately ,)96..00 and that this viork be done by Gus Brodersen.
