This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,.Tr.
Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,
David V.stout. Absent: Councilmen Nat Helner,James Battersb,y.
Minu~es of the meetings of January 4th and 18th,1943 are read
and approved.
A communication is read from the Gilroy Public Schoals asking
that pedestrian cross walks be painted on pavement on the i'h1rdl:
street 8i de of the Severance School on the Rosanna and Church street
crossings.
A connnunicat ion is read from the Electri cal Products Corpcr at ion
rela t1ve to types 0 f agreements they will enter into with respe ct to
the "GILROY" s6gns at the north and south entrances to the city.
A communication is read from Logan & Frazer, City auditors, stating
that they had examined the city's books and records for the second

quarter ending Dece:rril::lar 31st,l942, andJlthem in good order.
A post oard is read from former Councilman Jack Rogers, now with
the U.S.N.R. at Williamsburg,Virginia.
A report,signed by Councilmen Mason,Wentworth and Martin, relative
to their investigation of the killing of a dog belonging to Mrs..T.E.
Ayer, is read.
The marking off of pedestrian cross walks, as requested by the
Gilroy Public SchOOls, is placed in the hands of the street Committee.
The report of LOKan & Frazer, city auditrs, is ordered placed on
file.
The Clerk is instruoted to secure a new contrac't fran. the Electrical
Products Corporation for 14 months at $5.25 per month.
The Clerk is instructpd to fo~low the recommendations of the
committee which investigated the killing of a dog belonging to Mrs.
J.E.Ayer:"that the City Clerk be instruoted to write letters to
MarsbalGoodrich and Poundmaster Glover, instructing them to follow
the ordinance in the future and if they do not know it's contents
to inform themselves at once."
Reports of City officer~ are presented end read.

carried that the reports of the City Officers be accepted as read

The Iv'"ayor now di scusses the condition of the Carnadero, Levee
northwest of the city.
City Engineer W.J.Hanna reports that during the recent storms the
Army Engineers investigated the Carnadero Levee.
The levee located on the city Sewer Farm property is now discussed.
The Clerk is instructed to ask the City Marsbal to investigate the
amusement devices located at Irvin Hollister's place, 280 North
Monterey street.

carried that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered
drawn on the Treasurer. and

Motion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman "Masorltbat
Chris Maze be given a permit to establish a Merchants Patrol if and
when he furnishes all necesaary permits from the state of California
and an oath of oft"ice as Deputy Sheriff of Santa Clara County and
that it be understood with Mr.Maze that he will assist city poliQ~e
officers when asked to do so but not to interfere in city police
