This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called
to order by His Honor ~yor George C.Milias,Kr.
Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner,
David V.stout. Absent:Councilmen James Battersby,J.H.Wentworth.
The Mayor now disousses the recent opening of a card room at
27 South Monterey and states that he had instructed S..I~N1ght
Offioers to see to it that this place and all places where oards
are played be closed at midnight.

The Clerk is ins tructed to read Ordinance No. 347, -Shish ord inanc'e
giving the closing hour for pool rooms, bowling alleys and plaoes
where soft drink are sold, as twelve o'clock midnight.
The Mayor now discusses the Mexican situation stating that an
altercation had taken plac,sat Monterey and 6th streets, Saturday
evening, August 14th, between members of a &~OU~ gfo~9ung MexIoans
and he urged that every effort be made immediately to stop a recurrence
I r of suJh inc idents. The Mayor urged that an additional polioe officer
be added to the depertment during the present fruit season.
It was unanimously agreed that the Mayor discuss the matter or
extra work with Relief Night Officer George Easton and Traffio Officer
Norman Goodrich. and report to the Counoil at the regular monthly
meeting in September.

Court authorities relative to the holding of juvenile offenders in
San Jose.
The Mayor now states that he has had fourteen complaints in regard
to NT.Robert Stayton, 209 Martin Street, and the disturbanoe he oreates
in the immediate neighborhood of his residence.
ThesCrlt;-tattopney is instructed to take the necessary steps to
have Mr.Stayton confined to some institution and removed from this
community.
