Thi.regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr.
Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,Jamea Battersby,Nat Heiner,
I J.H.Wentwor~h,David V.Stout. Absent:Counoilmen George A.Martin.
Minutes of the meetings of September~th and 28th, 1943 are read
and approved.
The Mayor states that the Library Board has made a request that
Librarian Pearl Lavin be plaoed on a part-time basis at a salary of
$60.00 per month and requestaadditional funds to take eare of this
emergency. No objection is m&4. to this proceedure it being under-
stood that the request be granted on a month-t9-month basts.
Mr.Chris Maze, ownar of the Merchant. Patrol, appears before the
Council to discuss transferring his business to a Mr.Byers of
Watsonville,Calif. Mr. Byers also appears before the Council. The
Council agrees to take the matter under advisement .
Councilman Heiner, ohairman ot the Fire Committee, announoes that
the annual Firemen's banquet will be held at Hotel Milias, Friday
evening, October 8th at 7:00 o'clock P.M.; all oity employees being
invited.
Councilman Mason reports that it has been necessary to replace
the switoh for the motor at the pumping plant.
Reports of the oity officers are presented and read.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Counoilman Heiner and
carried that the reports of city officers be accepted as read and
plaoed on file.
Motion by Counoilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Battersby and
oarried that the sum of $2,500.00 be transferred from the Water Fund
to the General Fund.

Motion by Councilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Stout and
oarried that the bills as presented be allowed and warrants oIQered
drawn on the Treasurer.
Mr.Ma.ze iarecalled to the Council ohamber and the Mayor states
that the Counoil has no objeotion to the Merohant. Patrol 8S long

as he, Maze, operates it, but will not favor its oontinuance after
Mr.Maze has given it up. The Council su~sts that Mr. Maze obtain a

local man to assist him.
Applications tor transfer of liquor licenses from Tomas Bios to
Joe Martinez,d.b.a. Martinez Cate, 61 South MOnterey Street and
Mary Silvas to Pete Espinoza, d.b.a. as Espinoza's Place, 63 South
Monterey Street, are presented. After some discussion the applications
are granted.
