This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr.
Present:Counoilmen George A.Martin,George M.Jlason,James Battersby,
J.H.Wentworth. AbsentL Councilmen Nat Heiner,David V.Stout.
Minutes of the meeting of October 4th are read and approved.
A oommunioation is read trom Mrs.George F.Pelow ,owner of prop-
at IS? South Rosanna Street, complaining about a dwelling adjoining
her property as a fire hazard.
A communication is read from Logan & Frazer, city auditors,
stating that they had examined the city books of record and account.
for the period July 1 to September,30,1943 and found them in good
order.
Classification advise from Local Draft Board No.llZ ~stating that
Night Offioer Ernest Barozzi had been olassified 2-A until January,
1944, is read.
The Health Report is presente. and fead and ordered placed on
file.
A cO~uunication is l1,ad from the Chamber of Commerce re8o~nding
that the flags and staffs placed along the sidewalks on Monterey
Street be gathered up by the city and stored, the fllgs to be used
only on holidays or special occasions~ No objeotion being offered
thecha.irman or the Street Committee is instruoted to follow the~~~_
The communication from Mrs.George F.Pelow is referred to the C1t~\6~S.
Building Inspeotor with instructions to investigate the property
oanplained of ani report at the next meeting of the Council.

The Mayor reports a vaoancy in the position of Relief Driver tor
the Fire Department and states that an effort is being made to secure
a driver from among the personnel of the army unit stationed here.
The Mayor reports a vaoancy in the position of Street Sweeper
operator and states that an effort is being made to secure a man for
this position.
Traffic Officer Norman Goodrioh now appears before the Council to
ask for a 60 day leave of' absence for the purpose of attendiD&
the California Highway Patrol School .
Motion by Councilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that Traffic Officer Norman Goodrich be granted a leave of'
absence for 60 days.
It is unanimously agreed thaplN~ghtiQ~io'r~Eene.tnBaroZz1otate up
the duties of Traffic Officer tor a period of thirty days and that
George Easton be employed as Night Offioer for the ensuing 50 days.
The Mayor now disousses the purohase of an Honor Roll for men
fxom this city who are now in the service. It 1s unanimously agreed
that this matter be postponed until a later date.
Motion by Councilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Wentworth
and carried that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered
drawn on the Treasurer.
Reports of the oity offioers are presented and read.
Motion by Counoilman Mason ,seoonded by Councilman Martin and
carried that the reports of the city officers be aocepted as reacl
and plaoed on file.
The Clerk is instruoted to notify the chairman of the Rationing
Board that they shall hold no meeting in the Counoil chambera during
Counoil meetings.
