Thls regular monthly meeting of the Common Counoil is called to

order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,.Jr.
Present:Counoilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,.James Battersby,
Nat Helner,.J.H.Wentworth,David V.Stout. Absent:Councilmen None.
Minutes of the meeting of .January 3,1944 are reai and approved.
A communication is read from Sociedad Funerar1a requesting per-
mission to hold a dance every other Sunday.
A cornmunication is read from Logan & Frazer, city auditors, stating
734 that t hey had completed their regular quarterly aud1 t for t he period
ending December 31,1943 and had found that the books of account and
record were in good order.
A communication is read from Mr.E..J.Fabbri, chairman of the Fourth
War Loan Committee, asking for an appropriation of $75.00 to assist
in defraying expenses for the Fourth War Loan drive.
A communioation is read from Ben Thomas, local agent for the
Union Oil Company of California, giving the reason he did not
present his bid for the 0 ity' s gasoline requirements at the time
bids were oalled for.
A communication is read from Night Officer George Easton tender-
ing his resignation as full-time Night Officer.
A report of water analysis is read and a report from the oity
poundmaster is read. These reports are ordered placed on file.
The Clerk is instructed to notify the City Marshal that if he
is satisfied that the dances will be conducted properly he can
issue a permit to Socledad Funeraria to hold dances every other
Sunday, the permit to be revocable at the pleasure of the Counoll.
The Clerk is instructed to aoknowledge the receipt of a bid for
for the oity's gasoline requirements as presented by the Union Oil
Company of California.
Motion by Counoilman Martin, seconded by Counoilman Stout and
carried that the sum of $75.00 be given to the Fourth War Loan
Committee to assist in defraying expenses during the current drive.
The Mayor now discusses the resignation of Night Officer George
Easton and stateS that Officer Easton does not want regular night
work.
Mr.Wl1liam Werner now appears before the Council to discuss
certain statements made in his newspaper in regard to the Night
Offi cers.
Motion by Counoilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried that the resignation of Night Officer George Easton not
be accepted and the carrying of this motion be a vote of confi~enoe

for him.
The matter of a dinner fo r t he local telephone operators is
discussed. It is unanimously agreed to refer this matter to Traffic
Officer Ernest Barozzi with instructions to proceed to make prep-
arations for a dinner for the operators.
City Treasurer H.R.Eschenburg now appears before the Council
amd states that the Bank of America would like to reduce the city's

$25,000.00 inactive account to ~15,000.00 unless the city would agree
to increaselte deposits in the Bank of America.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried
that the i'tH'i\.lest of'the Bank of America be met and t.ha'Vthe.,'1nactive
acoount be reduced from $25,000.00 to $15,000.00.
Councilman Mason, chairr~n of the Water Committee, discusses a
request from the Gilroy Golf and Country Club to reallgn a portion
of the fenae at Owsley Park.
Mot ion by Coune llman Heiner, seconded by Counc ilman Bat ters by and
carried that ,the change in the fence alignment at Owsley Park be
turned over to the Water Commi tt ee wit 11 po wer to act.
Reports of the city officers are presented and read.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Battersby and
carried that the reports of the city officers be accepted as read
and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Stout and
carr ied that bills as presented be allov;ed and warrants ordered
drawn on the Treasurer.
