April 1'1,1944_ This regular adjourned meet1ng of the Common Oouncil is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Mi11aa,Jr. Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,James Battersby,Nat Heiner,J.H. Wentworth. Absent:Councilmen George M.M8son,Davld V.stout. A communication is read from the Federal Housing Administration stating that the War Housing Standards regulations,used in the con- struction of defense housing projeots,could not be altered to fit the provisions of the Unifor.ma Buildlng Code and Standard Electtdcal and Plpmbing Codes and that it would be neoessary for the Counoil to pass an enabling 0 rd1nance to pe rmit the War Housing Standards regulat 10ns to be used instead of the uniform codes. I, Motion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried that r1t ban tli.8i"en..i.Dl"nlthis meet ing that an ena bling ord inance be enacted amending provis ions of t he Uniform Building Code and the Standard Electrlcal and Plumbing Codes to conform to the War Housing Standards aot, enforceable by the War Production Board; this enabling amendment to be enaoted as soon as a model oopy is reoelved from the League of California Cities. The Clerk is instructed to forward a oopy of the foregoing mation to Mr.n.C.MoGuinness,District Director,Federal Housing Administration, San Francisco,California, c: A oommunication is read from Mr.Eugehe H.Frakes, asking ~rmission to take over the Gilroy Merohants Patrol from Mr.Chris Maze when,and if,Mr.Maze retires from the merchants patrol business. Motlon by Councilman Martin, seoonded by Councilman Heiner and carried that Eugene H.Frakes be permitted to take over the Gilroy Merchant Patrol from Mr.Chr1s Maze, providing, he makes proper arrargements with the present owner; that he comply wlth all state laws in regard to proper '" bond; that he undestand that he wtll in no way intertereewith the business of the Gilroy Police Department and that he serve as the merohant patrol at the will and pleasure of the Counoll.
