This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Counoilmsn George M.Mason,.J.H.Wentworth,David V.Stout,
Henry .J.Schilling. Absent:Counoilmen George A.Martin,Nat Heiner.
Minutes of the meeting of .June 5th are read and approved.
A communication is read from former Counoilman .James Battersby
thanking the Council for the gift presented to him and stating
that he enjoyed his association with the members of the Council
during the six years he served as Councilman.
A card of thanks is received from the Pieters-V:~eeler Seed Co.

A oowaunication is read from the Mission Trails Association
requesting a donation of $25.00 to carryon their work.
The health report is presented and read and ordered placed on

Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Wentworth~that
the sum of ~25.00 be donated to the Mission Trails Association to
carryon their work.

The annual report of the Gilroy Public Library is presented and
read.
Motion by Counoilman Mason, seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried that the annual report of the Gilroy Public Library be
accepted as read and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried that the Clerk be instructed to write a letter of

appreciation to the Gilroy Public Library Board for their excellent
management.
The Mayor instructs the Ways and Meam Committee to meet with the
Gilroy Library Board to discuss the situation with reference YO
Pearl G.Lavin, and report its findings to the Council.
The report on the proposed Pension Plan for city employees is now
tabled until such time as all members of the Council are present.
The Ways and Means Committee reports on the situation at the
Beacon Light of Propheoy church and states that satisfactory changes
have been made.
The matter of delinquent taxes on oertain property within the city
is discussed. The Mayor requests the Clerk to make a list of property
on which taxes have been delinquent for more than five years and
present it to the City Attorney for a legal opinion.
The Clerk is instructed to write a letter to Binder and Curtis,
architects, San .Jose,California, requesting a meeting with them in
Gilroy in order to view the Wheeler Auditorium for the purpose of
drawing specifications to place the building in its original condition.
Former Mayor Elmer .J.Chesbro now appears before the Council to
discuss the advisability of selling that certin five acre tract of
land belonging to the city and located south of Ninth Street. The
Clerk 1s instructed to deliver the lease of .Joe Buzzini to the City
Attorney to ascertain the expiration date.
Councilman Mason 1s requested to check the septio tanks at Owsley
Park and report his findings to the Council.
Mr.William Werner now appears before the Council to discuss the
need for more dwellings in Gilroy.
Former Mayor Chesbro now appears before the Council and states
that he believes additianal housing facilities are needed and suggests
that any further housing be of equal, or better, construction than
those now being built by the Federal Housing Administration and further
suggests that the Ways and Means Committee contact the Federal Housing
Administration in this regard and that the Gilroy City Planning
Commission sit in the meeting with the Ways and l~am Committee and a
representative of the F.E.A.
The Mayor now ap~olnts the Ways and I~ans Committee to contact the
Federal Housing Administration in regard to additional dwellings and
to report back to the Counoil.
Motion by Councilman Mason, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and

carried that the Clerk be instructed to advertise meetings of the
Board of Equalization for taxes and that the Councilor a committee
of the Council sit as a board for equalization of taxes on .July 17,
24, and 25,1944, from the hours of 7:30 P.M. to 8 o'clock P.M. ln
the City Clerk's office in the City Hall,Gilroy,California.
The me tter of the purchase of a truck is discussed. It is unanimously
decided that the Council meet at 1 o'clock P.M.,Thursday,.July 13th,
and go in a body to the Culwell Chevrolet Company plant to view the
truck.
Reports of the City Officers are presented aIll read.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Mason and carried
that the reports of city officers be accepted as read and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Mason and carried
that bills as .presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the
Treasurer.
