Minutes 1944/11/17 1 7'74 Gilroy,California. November 17,1944. This regular adjourndtl meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,.J.H.Vientworth, David V.Stout. Absent: Councilmen Nat Henner, Henry .J.Schilling. The Mayor states that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed contract between several proper~y owners,the Gilroy Union High School Di stri ct and the 0i ty of Gilroy for the oontrol 7---- 'I ;-) of flood waters in the northeast section of the city. The City Attorney is called upon to give his opinion on the pro- posed contract and states that he believes the legal way for the city to participate in the proposed project is to ad~~tise for bids for that portion of the work on city streets alone. Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Stout and carried that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for flood control work in the northeast se?tion of the city on that portion of the projeot which comes within the right-of-way of city streets on Swanston Lane and Forest Street, according to plans and specifications of the City Engineer. The matter of bicycle racks on Monterey Street is discussed. Council- man Martin is instructed to inve$tigate the feasibility of returning the raoks to their original positions. Councilman Mason reports that he investigated the request of the Gilroy Union High School District to install a gasoline storage tank on school property and states that the provisions of the ordinance are being complied with, Motimn by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Wentworth and carried that the Gilroy Union High School District be granted a permit to install a 1500 gallom gas oline sto.rage t~ k on high school pr operty , all work to be done to be subject to inspection by the city Building Inspector. Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Stout and carried that the City accepts no responsibility in the matter of flood waters in the northeast section of the city which are accumulated in Santa Clara County and delivered to the City by natural drainage of the land but are endeavoring to cope with those waters given to the City of GilroY,coming from outside the city limits,to the best of our ability.
