This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner,David
V.Stout,Henry J.Schilling. Absent:Councilmen J.B.Wentworth.
Minutes of the meeting of March 5th are read and approved.
A comruunication is read from the Gilroy Chamber of Comr~rce re-
questing the Council to repaint the interior and extrior of their

quarters in the City Ball building
A cowQunication ~s read from the local lodge of Sociedad Progresista
Mexicana requesting permission tolhold a series of dances.
A communication is read from the Gilroy Telephone Company requesting
that the necessary steps be taken to secure additional qualified
Third Clas Radio Aperators for the police transmitting set.
A communication is read rrom the Third Class Radio Operators of
the Gilroy Telephone Company thanking the Mayor and Council for
the delightful evening provided for them,recently.
The Health Department report is presented and read and ordered

placed on file.
It is unanimously agreed that the Building and Grounds Committee
proveed to have the Chamber of Commerce office:;,c!'epainted ins ide
and ou tside.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that Norman Goodrich be asked to conduct a school for Third
Class Radio Operators, the city to bear all expense connected with
the procuring of the necessary licenses for, the operators.
The matter of the request of Sociedad Progresista Mexioana to
hold dances is laid on the table until Mrs.A.Nieto returns to
Gilroy.
This being the time specified in legal advertisements calling
for bids for an air compressor and and air horn fi 1'Q signal, the

Clerk announces that no bids have been received.
Letters from the Pacific Fire Extinguisher Company and the
Gamewell Company are read.
It is unanimously agreed that the matter of an air8 horn fire signal
be investigated by the Fire Committee the! committee to report its
findings to the Council.
An application for a Wine Bottling or Packaging license for
Alfred Ubrick and .John R.Clark,d.b.a.Gilroy Bottling Works,40 S.
Monterey street, is presented. No objection is made.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that the sum of '50.00 be donated to the Gilroy Volunteer
Fire Department.
The matter of an alley from Third Street to Fourth Street,between
Monterey and Eigleberry streets, is discussed. It is unanimously
agreed that further discussions be held with the owners of property
along the proposed alley route.

A deed for a right of way for an alley over the property of J.V.
Oliveria, is referred to the City Attorney for investigation.
The Mayor requests the Council to meetim with the Gilroy City
Planning Commission onMonday night,April 9th, for the purpose of
discussing the annexation of property lying west of Proncevalle

Stree~,between Fifth Street and Bodfish Mill Road.
Mr.Vosti,representing C.B.Gentry Company now appears before the
~~ Council to discuss the use by the company of the city's garbage
dump,.
The Mayor discusses the damage that it being done to the farming
land immediately adjacent to the garbage dump by the dumping of
onion refuse in tthe pits. The Mayor states that Councilman Wentworth,
chairman of the Sewer Committee, has recommended that the Gentry
Company obtain another location for dumping their garbage.
The Clerk is instructed to write to Gentry Company urging them to
obtain a new garbage dump before the new season opens.
Mr.Ed.Hanna now appears before the Council to discuss the purchase
by the city of city maps. It is unanimously agreed that this matter
be held in abeyance until a decision has been reached on the proposed
annexat ion.
The Street Committee is requested to proceed at once to have
the parking spaces on Monterey Street repainted.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman l~son and carried
that the City Clerk be instructed to purchase 8-$1,000.00 Series "G",
War S~vings Bonds during the cmmthg war bond campaign, from Water
Fund IDonie s .
Reports of the City Officers are presented and read.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried
that the reports of city officers be accepted as read and placed on

file.
The matter of low flying aeroplanes over the oity is disoussed and
the Clerk is imtruoted to advise the U.S.Naval Auxilliary Air Station
at Hollister that, if the planes that have been ~lying low belong to
that air station, the pilots should be warned about their dangerous
tact ics.
Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried
that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the
Treasurer.
