Tijis regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Na~ Heiner,
David V.Stout. Absent:Councilmen J.H.Wentworth,Henry J.Schilling.
Minutes of the meeting of August 6th are read and approved.
A communication is read from the Divison of Highways statJngthat
certain portions of El Camino Real (Monterey Street) will be
blanketed during the present biennium; that funds are not avail-
able to raise the pavement sufficieAtly to correct high vurb
cond it ions and that the wideming of Monterey Street has not been
providedxfor at present.
A communication ms read from the Gilroy Recreation Commission
requesting an appropriation of $300.00 to carryon the activities
of the commiss ion.
Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried that the sum of $300.00 be donated to the Gilroy Recreation
Commission to carryon their program.
This being the time specified in a legal advertisement calling fo~
bids for 1-1945 Chevrolet 6-i ton piokup truck, one bid is presented
and read.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seoonded by Councilman Heiner and

carried that the bid of the Culwell Chevrolet Company offering
1-1945 Chevrolet 6-i ton pickup for $1053.52 including State Bale~
Tax-less a trade in allowance of $271.00 for 1-1937 Chevrolet,i
ton pickup, net price less trade in allowance-$782.52, be accepted.
The City Clerk and Ex-Officio Assessor now presents the city
assessment toll for the fiscal year 1945-1946,showing a total assessed

value of $3,438,886.00.

Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that the assessment roll fo r t he fiscal year 1945-1946, as
presented by the City Clerk and Ex-Pfficio Assessor be accepted.
The City Clerk now presents proposed figures for the tax rate for
the fiscal year 1945-1946.
Motion by Counoilman Stout that the tax rate for the fiscal year
1945-1946 be set at $1.25 per $100.00 of assessed valuation.
This motion failed for want of a second.
Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried that the tax rate for the fiscal year 1945-1~46 be $1.00 '
per $100.00 of assessed valuation divided as follows: General Fund-
$.5500; Library Fund-$.llOO; 1923 Bond Fund-$.0700; 1927 Bond Fund-
$.1800; 1~40 Bond Fund-$.0500; Municipal Auditorium Maintenance
Fund ~$. 0400 .

The Mayor now casts and AYE vote on the motion.
Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried that $.0400 of the $1.00 tax rate be appropriated to a
fund to be known as"Municipal Auditorium Maintenance Fund"and the
City Attorney ix instructed to draw up the necessary resolution
creat ing this fund.
Mr.Sydney S..Johnson now apx;e ars before the Council to discuss a
proposed ordinance regulating the erection of certian types of
dwellings within the city.
The proposed ordinance is referred to the Ordinance Committee f~r
study and report.
Counoilman Stout discusses the traffic conditions on Monterey
Street and recommends that traffic lights be installed at Fifth
Street and Sixth Street on Monterey Street.
The City Clerk is instructed to write to the Division of Highwa~s
asking them to permit the city instal traffic lights on Monterey
Street at the Fifth and Sixth street interesections.
Mr.Sydnesy S..Johnson no. presents a map Tract 232- Gurries
Addition to the City of Gilroy,being a subdivison of parts of
Sub Lot 42 and Sub Lot 43 of the Las Animas Rancho.

RESOLUTION NO.148 is now ~resented and read.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Heiner that
RESOLUTION NO.148 be adopted.

Whereas, Gurrie sInvestments ,Inc. ,a corporation, organized under'
the laws of the State of California, as presented to the Mayor and
Common Council of the City of Gilroy,for filing, a plat or map of
the subdi visdon know as "Tract 232, Gurr ies Addition to the City of ....
Gilroy" oovering land located in the said City of Gilroy;
And, whereas, the said subdivison ond the map thereof has been ..
duly approved by the PlanLing Commission of the City of Gilroy and
by the Engineer of the said City of Gilroy;
And,whereas, the said map is accompanied by the certificate of
x~. Gurries Investments ,Inc. , the owner, dedicating to public use
forever all streets and alleys shown upon said map;
And,whereas, the said subdivison appears to be a proper one and
of no disadvantage to the City of Gilroy,and the map thereof appears
in proper order.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, and it is hereby ordered, that the
said map be,and the same is hereby,approved and hhat all streets and
alleys as shown upon said map be accepted on behalf of the public;
Be it further resolved that the City Clerk of the City of Gilroy
be, and he is hereby authorized to execute upon behalf of said City
of Gilroy,the Certificate required by law to accompany said map.

The Clerk is instructed to write to Mr..J.Kenneth McAlpine,executor
of the Estate of Virginia McAlpine and inform him that the work of
removing the debris caused by the fire which destroyed the property
known as the old Fowler Rink,North Monterey Street, must be commenced
within the next two weeks and completed with in the next four weeks,
otherwise the city will do the work and charge the cost against the
property.

Mr.William Werner now appears before the Council the discuss the
hiring of an additional police officer.
This matter is left open for future discussion.

Mr.Edward Hanna,Surveyor, now presents a tentative map of the
Renz Subdivision. The map is referred to the City Inspector and the
chairman of the Gilroy City Planning Coramission for study and report.
Reports of the city officers are presented and read.

that the reports of city officers be accepted as read and placed on',
file.
Motion by Counc ilman Stout ,sec onded by Counc ilman Heiner and carried
that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the
Treasurer.
