Minutes 1946/09/16 8fiO Gilroy, California September 16,1946. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas. Absent:Councilmen J.H. Wentworth. Councilman,Mason,Chairman of the Finance Committee presents budget figures for 1946-1947 and states that the committee recommends a tax rate or $1.25 per $lOO.of assessed valuation for the fisoal year 1946-1947. A 1'und is hereby created to be known as the "ReserTe Fund". 2. That each and every ,.ear when the tax rate is set the Mayor and Common Council shall then and thel'e determine the amount of the levy of the tax rate to be placed in said fund, end the uses to w~ch said fund shall be applied. 3. Councilman Stevens,chairman of the Lighting Committee,reports reports that request has been made to instal street lights at Sixth and Dowdy streets and Seventh and Dowdy streets and the Coast Counties Gas and Electric Company had been instructed to proceed upon advise from them that th e lights would be ire talled wi thout any cost to the city,other than the electricity used. The Mayor states that he had discussed the condition of Police Officer Dan Lemos with his doctor and Lemos' doctor had advised him that Lemos would require a leave off absence for three or four weeks to convalesce from his illness. It is unanimously agreed to defer the reading of applications for the posi ton of Police Of:ficer for the present. Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried that Police Officer Dan Lemos be granted a thirty-day leave of absence, without pay. The matter of undergi'cund storage 0' gasoline at servi ce stations is discussed and the Clerk is instructed to write to the League of C~lifornia Cities to ascertain if other cities limit the amount of g;3.soline permitted to be delivered in transport trucks and if t here are any cities that prohibit transportat ion of ga soline to service stations in transport trucks. The Clerk is instructed to wri te to Mr.Harold P.Huls ,President of the State Railroad Commiss ion, relative to the speed of' trains through cities. Adjourned subject to the call 0 f the chair. .. ~.
