Minutes 1946/11/18 ~.,"<~ I I !....,..: ~- , , 1...- 86B Gilroy,California November 18,1946. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to control on Monterey Street. Motion by Councilman Wentworth, seconded by Councilman Heiner and carried that the the.~eq~ej~.o~ theo~epartment of Public Works, Division of Highways for the sum of $500.00 from the 1/4~ gas tax funds for State Highways tor the purpose ot making additional traffic survey at 8 intersections along Monterey Street, be granted. Mr.Ed.Hanna now appears before the Council to diseuss the annexation ,~ t~ the City of Gilroy of land lying west of Princevalle Street, west to a point 300 feet west of Miller Avenue and from a point eq.d1stant between Fifth and Sixth streets to a point North and West ot First Street (Hecker Pass Road);and it is suggested from figures oomplied that the cost to property owners in this area be set tentatively at $2.00 per ~nt foot to oover installation of addit'onal water mains, sewer lines, fire hydrants and steeet lights. Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Stevens that the City Attorney and the City Etgineer draw up the necessary plans for annexation to the City of Gilroy ot the land described by Mr. Ed.Hanna, for presentation to the Council. The Mayor states that Mr.Harold Crow or Crow's Nurseries had made a complaint about trucks parking on South Monterey Street in front of the driveway to his place of business. The St.-at Committee is instructed to make an investigation of this oomplaint and report its findings and make recommendations at the next meeting o~ the Council. The matter of parking in the driveway ot the Colburn Motors garage on N.MontereyStreet is discussed and it is agreed that the Night Officers should be instructed to take the neoessary steps to see that this practice is discontinued. The matter of condeming b~ildinas at the northwest and southwest corner of Seventh and Monterey streets is disoussed. Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded py Councilman Thomas and 8'70 oarried that appropriate steps be taken to oondemn the building at the southwest corner of Seventh and Monterey streets. It is unanimously agreed that the Fire Committee should investigate conditions at the Redwood Apartments,located on North Railroad Street. . Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Gouncilman Thomas and carried that appropriate steps be taken to condemn the building located at the northwest corner of Svventh and Monterey streets. A group of men representing the Standard Oil Company now appear before the Council to discuss their plan for erecting a truck service station on North Monterey Street opposite St.Mary's Convent and to discuss present ordinance provisions for the storage of gasoline. Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried that the Fire Committee investigate the present ordinanoe governing the storage of gasoline at service stations and make recommendations to the Council.
