This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner,Ray
L.Btevens,James B.Thomas. Absent:Councilmen J.H.Wentworth.
A communication is read from the Gilroy City Planning Commission
recommending that unless proper provisions are made for sewerage
and drainage,the expense of the latter to be borne by the property
owners in the area,in the Costello Subdivision, that the proposed
subdivision be not accepted; that the maps of the Tentative Plan-
Subdivision of the McAlpine Estate,located in Block 3 & 4 North,
Range 1 East and the tentative plan for an alley in the same block
map of the

Gilroy wa.~ studied and the Council's attention was respectfully
directed to the Commission's letter to the Council dated July 15,

1944 and further recmmmendation made that certain exceptions be

annexation.
A oommunication is read from the Adjutant General's Office
stating that the State would be willing to rent the Class Room in
Wheeler Auditorium to the Santa Clara County Health Department tor
$2.00 for each day ocoupied.

A communioation is read from Mr.Edward J.Naughton asking that
investigation be made of a series of violations of the law and
ordinances on the part of Byers Bros., be ms..<iei)~: ,~< ,~'>~. cd".
A communication is read from the Gilroy Business and Professional
Women t s Cl'mb thanking the Council for the use at' vTheeler Auditorium
for their annual Children's Halloween party.
A communication is read from the Board of Supervisors of Santa
Clara county calling attention to an enclosed resolution declaring
highways on the City of Gilroy no longer County Highways.
A comm~nication is read from Mrs. Catherine T.Ryan,president of
of the Board of Trustees 0 f the Gilroy Free PublieLibrary, rel-
ative the the lighting in the building and submitting bids made
by local electrical contractors fora change in the lighting system.
The report from the Santa Clara County Health Department of
water samples taken November 18,1946, is read and ordered placed
on file.
Communioations from the Board of Supervisors and the letter from
the Gilroy Business and Professional Women's Club are ordred filed.
The matter of ohanging the lighting in the Gilroy Free Public
Library building was referred to the Buildings and Grounds Committee
for investigation.
The Mayor announces that the Council will meet December 16th ~o
consider the proposal of the Coast Counties Gas and Eleotric Company
to renew their gas and electric franchises.
The communication from Mr.Edward J.Naughton is referred to the
City Inspector for investigation.
The matter of the use ofthe Clas Room in Wheeler Auditorium by
the Santa Clara County Health Department is referred to the County
Health Officer with the suggestion that any agreement to be made
should be made between the County and the State at California.
In the matter of the ,roposed Costello Subdivision is was agreed
that the property owners concerned should provide the necessary
'-' right-at-way for a sewer line from the Forest Street side of the

The matter of the Subdivision of the McAlpine Estate property'
and the proposed alley was laid over until a ~ter date awai*i18
information t~om lkr.Hugh Hersman.
It is unanimously agreed that the engineer shoudd proceed to
gather the necesarry figures and data on the proposed annexation

as originally set up-i.e. the area from Princevalle Street west to
the east line of Miller Avenue and from the north line ot Fifth .treet
to the south line otoFirst Street.
Reports of the oity officers are presented and read.
Motion by Counoilman Stevens,seconded by Counoilman Heiner and
carried that reports of the oity offioers be acoepted as read and
ordered plaoed on file.
