Minutes 1946/12/16 8?2 Gilroy,Californla. December 16,1946. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner, J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas. Absen~:Councilmen None. Mr.Hugh S.Hersman appears before the Council to disouss the opening of an alley from Lewis Street to the South line of Lot 4, Block :3 &, 4 North,Range 1 East, thence along said South line West to Monterey Stree~. Mr.Hersman presents lettersfrom the several property owners along the proposed route of the alley oonsenting to deed the necessary land for a 16 foot alley. These let,ers are presented to the City Attorney for his approval. Motion by Counoilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried that the alley plam as presented by Mr.Hugb S.Hersman be accepted and the prqper resolution be drawn up and presented at the next meeting of the Council. The Clerk is instructed to write a letter of appreciation to the Southern Pacifio Company for their cooperation in permitting the alley proposed by Mr.Hersman to be opened through their land, upon reoeipt of the deed from the company. Mr.Zirbel,representing the Standard Oil Company, now appears before the Council to discuss the plan of the oompany to erect c ,..,-:C~. [ 8'7~~ a truck service station ~n the north part of Las Animas Ranch Sub- lot 5. The matter of storage of inflammable liquids and the parking of trucks in the area of the propsoed service station are discussed and it is unanimously agreed that a committee of the Council should make a complete investigation and report at the next regular monthly meeting of the Council,January 7,1947. The Mayor now di scusses the renewal of the gas and electric fran- chises of the Coast Co unties Gas & Electric Company which expire March 23,1948. The Clerk is instructed to request the company to prepare ten copies of their application for the franchises and it unanimously agreed that the Coast Counties Gas and E~ctric Company present their proposal for the gas and electric franchises. The matter of the sale of a gas heater formerly in use in the Clerk's office is discussed and it is unanimously agreed that the chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee sell the heater. Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried that a Christmas gift of $10.00 each be given to all city employees. Councilman Heiner discusses a request made to constru.t a rire proof building in front of the present apartment house located on a portion of Lot 1,Blook 4 North,Range 1 West, said building to be used as a florist shop. .0 objection is made. Councilman Heiner discusses a request made by Louis DeLorenzo to change an acoessory building to a dwelling unit on property owned by Mary Filice and located on a portion of Lot 1,Block 2 North, Range 2 East. The Building Inspector states that the proposed change does not meet the requirements of the ordinances and it is unanimously agreed not to permit the requested change. I .2. ! !.Q. 159 BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council. of the City ef Gil.roy, at regular session assembled, that: 1. The Mayor and City Clerk of said City enter into that certain agreement with the Southern Pacific COllpany, a corpora- tion, and the City of Gilroy, a municipal corporation of the State .f California, of even date herewith, and as presented to said City by said Southern Pacific Company, ,a corporation, and having reference t. the alley in the rear of Bleck 3 North 8'74 Range 1 East, of the City of Gilroy. 2. That the City of Gilroy accepts such alley as a public thoroughfare as shown on the map attached to said agreement. 3.
