Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,Nat Heiner,J.H.Wentworth,Ray. L.Stevens ,James B.ThoIIBS. Absent: Couno ilmen George M.Mason. Min..ea of the meetings ot June 2nd,16th Ind 17~h,l94? are read and approved. Aoceptances of the gas and electric franchises by the Coast Counties Gas and Eleotrio Company are presented and read and ordered placed on file. A notice IN THE MATTER OF THE SALE OF TAX DEEDED PROPERTY BY THE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR, signed by Roy P.Emerson, ani. relating to Lot 3 Block 1 South,Range 3 East, is presented and read. A oommunicat ion from the State Controller, approving, as or June 6, 1947, and stating that the Tax Collector of Santa Clara County has been authorized to give notioe of agreament on the sale of Lot 3,Block 1 South,Range 3 East. Both of the foregoing oommunication are ordered .' filed. A report of water samples taken June 18,1947 by the Santa Clara County Health Department is presented and read and ordered plaoed on file. This being the time speoified in a legal notic~ calling for bids to imtal new lighting in the Gilroy Publio Library building,the Mayor now oalls for t he bids to be opened. ~ 926 The bid of Hollenback Electrio to furnish fixtures as speoifiei " everthing complete-~1025.00 and an alternate bid on fixtures approved by Coast Counties Gas & Electrio engineer-$947.50. The bid of Howard Electric Company for fixtures,changing service and labor $837.00, is presented and read. Due to briefness of the wording in the bid the City Attorney reoommends that Mr.Smith Howard be called before the board to clarify I""IIlI' hi s bid. ~ RESOLUTION NO.178 is now presented and read. Mr. William Werner now app9ars be:Core the Counoil to disouss the work done on several streets in seal coating and to express his dissatisfaction with the work. Motion by Councilman Wentworth,seconded by Councilman Stevens that RESOLUTION NO.178 be adopted. WHEREAS, a memorandwn of agreem~nt has been presented to be entered into-with the State of California in aoco:rdance with a project statement for expenditure of the 1/4 cent gas tax for the fisoal ye,..:t948 allocated for streets o"t major importance other than state highways in the City of Gilroy; and WHEREAS,the oity Council has heard read said agreement in full and is familiar with the contents thereof; THEREFORE, be it resolved by the ci ty Council of the City of Gilrqy that said project statement be and it is hereby adopted as the budget of proposed expenditures of the 1/4 cent gas taa allocated for streets of major impartame other than State Htlihways, am said agreement be and the same is hereby approved and the -Mayor and the city clerk are directed to sh gn t he same on behalf of the oity,said agreement to be binding upon the oity upon its execution by the authorized officials 0 f the State. Mot! on by Councilman Stevens, sec ended by Cou~oilman Thomas that the main auditorium of Wheeler Auditorium be given over to the dancing instructor for instruction classes,during the day, with 20% of the gross receipts to go t~ the Recreation Commission,subject to revocation by the Council should this arrangement not prove satis- factory. Councilman Wentworth now discusses the location of a tel~phone pole on the Howson Bros.pro~erty on North Monterey Street (pole number 1026) The Clerk is instruoted to write to the Pacific Tele- phone and Telegraph Company and ask that the pole location be changed. Mr.Albert Vosti of Gentry,Inc. ,now appears before the Council to request and: extension of one year to the privilege of ".~_ the pit at the city'S garbage dump for disposing of dehydration refuse from their plant. The City Attorney is instructed to re-draw the original agreement with C.B.Gentry Company ani present it at, the next meeting of the Counc il. Mr.Ed.Hanna now pppears before the Council to discuss the reoent ehQ&" made in the allocation of gas tax money. The Clerk now presents the request of' Mr.Henry Allemand ~or 8. new five year lease on the 87 acres of sewer f~ land under lease to him at the present time. The City Attorney is instruoted to draw a new five year lease far Henry Allemand under the same terms am <D nditions as prertous lease. Reports of the City offioers are presented and read. Motion by Counoilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried that the reports of city officers as plt"esented be acoepted ~nd placed on file. The Clek is instruoted to write to the Division of Highways and ascertain the present status of the proposed Traffic signals on Montere y stree't. The matter of plac ing of add1t ional STOP signs in the residential district is discussed and it is unanimo~sly agreed that the City Engineer and the chairman 0 f Street Committee make a study of the ...... ...., - .... ...... ... ... 9'JB present location of STOP signs and make reoommendations for further installat ions. The Clerk is instructed to meet with the City Attorney to draw up a letter addressed to Mr.Victor Ginelli requesting him to olean up the rear ot premises owned by him looated on the west side ot Rosanna Street between Fourth end Fifth Streets.
