This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called
to order by his Honor, Mayor George C.Milias.
Present: Councilmen George A.Martin, George M.Mason,
J.H.Wentworth, Hay L.Stevens and James B.Thomas.
Absent: Councilman Nat Heiner.
The Mayor states that night officer Harold Sturla has
requested two weeks leave of absence and has agreed to hire
Constable Carl Shulz to take his place during his absence.
Motion by Councilman stevens, seconded by Councilman Thomas,
and carried, that night officer Harold Sturla be eranted the
two weeks leave of absence and that Constable Carl Shulz re-
place him during the time he is absent, Officer Sturla to
pay Constable Schulz for his time.
A communication is read from the Division of Highways
relative to progress on the traffic signalS. The Clerk is
instructed to call the Division of Highways office in San
Francisco and arrange with the proper person there for a
meeting with the Council and a member of the Department at
the earliest date possible.
Councilman Mason now presen~three propositions submitted
by pump concerns ~r testing and developing the new water well,
as follows: Lee L.Mathison $267.50; Gordon E.Chappell $350,00
plus $2.50 per hour to maintain equipment on run test; Western
Pump Company Ltd.; $435.00 pluss $5.00 per hour to furnish
supervision. The matter of the depth to which the new well
should be drilled is now discussed and it is unanimously agreed
to leave this matter to the judgment of the Water Committee.

Motion by Councilman Wentworth, seconded by Councilman
Martin, and carried, that Lee L.Mathison be awarded the
work of testing and developing the new well on his bid
of $267.50, no charge to be made for man to attend the
equipment during the testing period, in accordance with
his letter dated October 6,1947.

The Water Committee is iAstructed to take care of

sealing around the top of the well. Councilman Mason
was given the authority to rent the necessary amount of
surface pipe to take care of discharge water from the
well d~ring the testing period.
A communication was read from Bill's Taxi stating
that they had removed one car from service and replaced
it with another car. No objection is made by any member
of the Council.
A communication is read from Mrs.Gordon Chappell
requesting that the parking space now marked off for
steve's Taxi in front of 450 N.Monterey Street be removed
due to the fact that a new furniture store will shortly
be opened at this location. Motion by Councilman Martin,

seconded by Councilman Mason, and carried, that the permit
for parking space in front of 450 N.Monterey street granted
to steve's Taxi be cancelled and permit revoked and the
space painted out.
The Mayor discusses the request made by Catherine
Dana to eliminate the 7% penalty on delinquent taxes on her
property. City Attorney states that he would not recommend
the elimination or cancellation of these penalties.
lrhe performance bond$of the B.S.Drilling Company are
now presented. Motion by Councilman Wentworth, seconded
by Councilman Mason,and carried, that the bonds of the B.

S.Drilling Company be accepted.
It is unanimously agreed that during the illness of
the Electrical Building Inspector that the Coast Counties
Gas & Electric Company be asked to do the electrical in-

spection work. This matter is left in the hands of the
Public Health and Safety Committee.
