This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to

order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Counci~en Geor@B A.Martin,George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,
Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas. Absent:Cohncilman Nat Heiner.
The Mayor states that the purpose 0 f' this meet ing is to dis cuss
the proposed annexation o'f the area bounded north by First Street,
West by Miller Avenue, South by Third Street and East by Princevalle
Street,

It is unanimously agreed that due to the absence of the City Attorney
that the matter of annexation be continuted to February 23rd.,
It is also unanimously agreed that the largest owner in the proposed
area to be annexed be per.mitted to post a guarantee for their share of
the expense :i:n$teadi'bf~lputting up the entire amount in cash.
Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Mason and carried
that the hearing on the proposed annexation of the territory bounded on
the north by First Street,West by Miller Avenue,South by Third Street
and East by Princevalle Street, be continued to Monday, February 23,1948
at 8 o'clock P.M.
The Clerk states that he notified the City li11arshal that the Council
would like to have him appear before them at this meeting.
A communication is read from the Be-Ge Manufacturing Company requesting
that Gurries Drive east of Church street and the alley between t~e St.
Mary's Parish property and the east line of Tract 232,Gurries Addition,
be closed.
The Clerk is instructed to notify the Be-Ge Manufacturing Company that
due to the absence 01: the City Attorney no official action could be
taken but that thi s matter would a&:lin be brought before the Council on
February 23rd.
Traffic Officer Jrones Sturla now appears before the Council to request
permission to invite the telephone operators to their annual dinner and
entertaimnent.
Motion by Counc ilman Wentworth,seconded by Counc ilman :Mason and carried
that the Traffic Officer take charge of all ar:8angements for the annual
dinner and entertai IlInent for the local telephone operators.
The Traffic Officer suggests that all taxioab stands should now be
removed fram Monterey Street and placed on the side streets,
The Mayor now di scusses phe parking problem on l"ionterey Street part-
icularly with reference to local busJnessmen parking their cars ~n front
... of their places of business and moving them from one parking space to
another during the day.
The matter of the condition of the police car is discussed..

Motion by Counci~an Stevens,seconded by Counci~an Thomas and carried
that the city purchase a rack for the sawed-off shot gun to be placed in
the poli ce car and that after t he rack is installed the present shot gun
be placed in the rack.
The Clerk is instructed to notify the City Marshal of the Council's
action.

Counci~n 'Wentworth, Council member of the Recreation Commission,states

that the Recreation COmTIlission has requested the Council's endorsement of
the Youth Center program at the high school.
Motion by Councilman Stevens ,seconded uy Councilman Thomas and carried
that the, Council go on record as endorsing the Youth Center to be estab-
lished at the high school.
